If you’re visiting Stockholm, be sure to head to Gamla Stan (there’s a convenient subway station) and walk a short distance to Stortorget (which means Big Square). It’s beautiful, and there are lots of great shops, restaurants and cafes to see, as well as a...More

A highlight of the Gamla Stan was Stortorget when we visited Stockholm this past July. This square is a beautiful historical centrepiece, notably the site of the Stockholm Bloodbath. A number of restaurants and the Nobel Museum are onsite, creating a buzzing atmosphere in high...More

It is odd shaped and has lots of colors, old interesting buildings. Highlighted by cobblestone streets. Town well and slant of the square add character. Was very very crowded when we were here (Cruise ships) so made it hard to fully enjoy.

The old town Gamla stan is really beautiful with a lot of different, colorful buildings, interesting fasades and small streets. Also a lot of shops, cafés and restaurants.

The old town located at Gamla Stan is a great place for a romantic night stroll. The narrow cobble streets, traditional buildings, and small squares transport you to the past. The drawback is the massive crowds during the day and the tourist souvenir shops with...More

This is the main square in Gamla Stan. Its very pleasant, with loads of restaurant around the outside. There is also the Nobel Museum and a water feature, where you can drink the water. Its very busy and crowded.

Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home
to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central
island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small
island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous
Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit
touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting:
take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and
through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest)
