1.3 million Swedes, mostly very poor, made the journey to North America between 1850 and 1920. The exhibit is well laid out, and there are plenty of signs in English. So many Swedes emigrated to Chicago that Chicago became the second largest Swedish populated city,...More

Based on the reviews we read, we expected much more than what we found. We decided to travel 90 minutes out of our way to learn more about our Swedish ancestors who emigrated to the U.S. in the 1870's. What we found was basic information...More

Interesting place. As a non-swede I learned a lot about Sweden. Want to know more about the why and how swedish people went to the US? This is the place to visit.

Very thorough presentation of the wave of a million Swedes that left the country 1860-1930 in search of better lives in North America in the wake of over-population in Sweden at the time.

Got a grandparent who's a Swedish immigrant? The compact displays here explain who emigrated, where they went and what they accomplished in their new homeland. A must!

I enjoyed this museum which is devoted to telling the stories of the people who left Sweden and emigrated (mostly) to North America. The exhibits are in both Swedish and English and are very well done. I would have perhaps liked to see a bit...More

Pretty cool and helps one understand the Swedish obsession with America and its lifestyle. Much like us Irish...they have a huge amount of Ex-Pats.
