Kronborg Castle towers above a very narrow promontory between the coasts of Denmark and Sweden. The renaissance castle stands majestically with its spires, towers, columns, sandstone and copper roofs. Kronborg Castle is a magnificent renaissance castle and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. This year marks the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. Kronborg Castle is marking this occasion by celebrating Shakespeare's immortal play Hamlet with a cocktail of theatrical adventure, drama and festivities in the magnificent halls of the castle.

One of the better castles we've seen!

Very picturesque. Great views of Sweden from the tower! Chapel was interesting too. There's really a lot more to see here than at most castles!

This castle makes quite an impression due to its size and location, but the interior is a bit of a let down. There are no opulent rooms or lavish furnishings. Its big draw is that it's Hamlet's Castle. If you're going to this castle from Copenhagen, there is a combination train ticket and castle entrance ticket that you can purchase... More

Visit this castle immortalized by Shakespeare in Hamlet, guided by Horatio, the sole survivor.  Our guide played the part of witness perfectly. We were all rapt as we visited locations so familiar from the play and heard his version of the events: the ramparts, the chapel, Gertrude's bedroom, the climactic Gallery! It was fabulous.   The huge castle complex is... More

We planned a round trip from Copenhagen to Helsingør by train, took the ferry to Helsingborg and then the train to Malmø and eventually back to Copenhagen. The Kronborg castle is very impressive from the outside, but the inside tour was not worth our time. If you decide to take the ferry to Sweden, you will have a beautiful view... More

While Kronborg admits to being the successor to the site where the historical Prince Hamlet sighed, it is a lovely Renaissance Palace, and the connections to theater history are well conveyed in the displays. While we enjoyed the castle and grounds on a lovely spring day, it was easy to imagine a more brooding atmosphere in this place. This is... More

Well worth the easy train trip from Copenhagen. The castle and grounds are impressive. And the hour free guided overview of the castle is entertaining and very worthwhile!

If you follow the link to Kronborg Castle from Copenhagen card it does not open. If you check opening hours from Google it clearly says open until 17u30. But it is only open until 16h. Which major museum is only open until 16h? We were there at 16h05 and they would not let us in. Terrible, a wasted journey.

This castle is nice for those in pick of a little excitement like climbing up the canon tower for an aerial view or going down into the dark casement. I do feel that this castle is more like a fortress too. It is a nice attraction overall albeit having to take the train to Helsingor Station and the a 15... More

All you need to see you can see from the outside as it is not a residence with fine furnishings art or antiques.... Although it's the basis for Hamlet's castle - the most interesting thing was the history of the staging of the play and the actors who have appeared in them.

Absolutely amazed at casemates under the castle; there was a large underground network of halls and tunnels where the soldiers would stay during the times of war and siege. There it was... the Danish mythical hero Ogier. It is believed that he would awake once Denmark is in need of his service. Krongborg castle is also where the story of... More
