This hippy enclave is an alternative community unto itself, with local handicrafts and a disproportionate number of vegetarians, artists and young people. Go for a walk around the lake or check out one of the watering holes. Best to visit during the day.

Percent place for walk or bike trip. Very peaceful place close to city center. And completely different.

Lots of people consider this area to be spectacular. Personally I thought it was just a bunch of people who didn’t want a job or to pay bills, and decided to live for free in an old army barracks and sell drugs to locals and...More

Everything there is about weed, weed, weed and again weed 😅. Even for people who don't smoke(like me), it's a very interesting place to meet cool people and enjoy grab a drink

A must visit place when you come into Copenhagen. This place apparently is self sustaining & has very limited interaction/support from the Danish govt. You'll see graffiti all over & people of all ethnicities. Though marijuana isn't legal in Denmark... You could find it in...More

This is a super chill place. I had heard about it but it was uber cool to see by self. Full of colorful graffiti, smell of weed in the air, trinkets shops and small eateries. In the center is a small stage where groups come...More

We visited here yesterday, but on,y because we were in the area. It would s not worth going out of your way to visit the place, but it was definitely interesting to walk through and see a different part of Copenhagen.

A visit to 3 free city of Christiana is something that everyone should see while in Copenhagen. There are restaurants and souvenir shops as well as the infamous Pusher Street where the sellers of recreational pot set up stands. The relationship between the police and...More

I've known about Christiania forever, being a child of the sixties and familiar with communes since the seventies. Also Rick Steves moons over this place because it jibes with this highly romanticized and kinda noxious notion of "authentic." But still. We are staying only a...More

This is a must see in copenhagen, if you are not afraid of dogs without leashes and stoned people. i would also not recomend going there by night. A lot of drug selling people and there own rules makes this place unique, especially because the...More

Just across one of the many bridges from Indre By,
you’ll find Christianshavn. An eclectic area with old
brick lanes, houses dating back to the 16th century,
and canals which are home to many boats and ships,
some of which has been turned into restaurants or even
serve as fully furnished homes. The best known
attraction in Chistianshavn is Christiania, a “free

I guess you have to accept it for what it is. It's a community and home to many people who enjoy this way of life. Personally I wouldn't choose to live there myself as myself and my family have different needs but I can... More
