About
This hippy enclave is an alternative community unto itself, with local handicrafts and a disproportionate number of vegetarians, artists and young people. Go for a walk around the lake or check out one of the watering holes. Best to visit during the...more

Go there.. experience the place. They have their own rules. No cards accepted only cash. One hour walking should be enough.

This place is full of culture and super cool to walk all around. Highly recommend spending minimum of an hour or 2 here, and bring cash if you want to buy anything!

Christiania was a great concept 50 years ago, but not any more! Nothing like I imagined it to be. We did not feel welcome roaming around and would not want to visit here after dark. There were a couple of friendly stallholders and the Women's...More

Loved spending a Saturday AM here. Rode out bikes over from Nyhavn and strolled around people watching and catching a local soccer match. This is a fascinating social experiment that seems to work for those that live there.

The open-minded society of Scandinavia in general and Copenhagen particularly, is the appropriate place for such a social experiment. Positive point of view, the sense of liberal living and respect of human rights. Negative point of view, the use of "black" money and the sense...More

The contrast to the city center of Copenhagen. Is a hippy area, but we have a nice time strolling and see the daily life in the area. Here drugs are for sale on the street but prohibited for photo Is supposed a safe place to...More

Christiania is beautifull, chilled and amazing, although it is not that exciting if you are looking for thrills (it is chilled, people come with dogs and babies). The nature is beautiful, the beer is cools and graffiti is amazing.

Honestly, this is packaged as some hippy commune and idealic community. It's basically a load of stoners (don't seem to live

If weed is your thing and love communist vibes then go for it but if like me you were visiting Copenhagen for a cultural and historical visit then by all means walk past, just don't go in it

Just across one of the many bridges from Indre By,
you’ll find Christianshavn. An eclectic area with old
brick lanes, houses dating back to the 16th century,
and canals which are home to many boats and ships,
some of which has been turned into restaurants or even
serve as fully furnished homes. The best known
attraction in Chistianshavn is Christiania, a “free
town” of residents who squat on a former military

I guess you have to accept it for what it is. It's a community and home to many people who enjoy this way of life. Personally I wouldn't choose to live there myself as myself and my family have different needs but I can... More
