A very interesting visit.

Although plain from the outside, the inside is where the interest is. As it was home to the first Danish parliament, there is a lot of history attached to it. Over the last six... read more

My wife I had spent four nights in Copenhagen, taking in all the usual sights including the amazing castles/palaces in and north of town...then drove down to Fyn for three days, based in Svendborg for the duration. The drive to Nyborg was pretty along the coast. The signage in Nyborg was a bit lacking, glad we had our GPS to... More

Although plain from the outside, the inside is where the interest is. As it was home to the first Danish parliament, there is a lot of history attached to it. Over the last six years a lot of work has been done to discover the history and development of the castle and the town. A planned visitors centre will make... More

Nyborg slot is a wonderful old castle. We arrived late on the first day so were only able to walk around it. It has a very peaceful and beautiful setting. The moat was full of water lilies and we saw swans and cygnets. There was a concert going on nearby and the area around the moat was crowded with locals... More

This is the first capital of Denmark until Frederik II moved to Copenhagen. To this day Nyborg castle is know as the Heart of the Kingdom.

An interesting building with some good displays. They were setting up for an event when we were there, but they were still happy to let us in, even though it was getting late in the day. The area around the castle is very picturesque and peaceful.

We were here on Whit Monday which meant that the main hall was closed. That said the bulwarks and outer works are fascinating. The Queen's Tower is an architectural gem. Much restoration work is going on presently and it will be fascinating to revisit the final result. Hopefully the many ducks will still have a home here once completed.

Excellent castle, with interesting rooms and able to walk through the entire attic once reserved for the Night Watchmen with terrific views over the town; also recent excavations have helped with a new interpretation of the site, revealing more buildings.

We visited the town of Nyborg as part of a maiden port cruise. We were transported to the town centre and pleasantly greeted by locals acting as tourist information staff. We were given a potted history of the town, area and Denmark in general, and then we set off to wander around the castle and grounds. What a lovely place,... More

This castle was a lovely surprise-- yes it is a work in progress-- so you get to see and do things you won't be able to once it is designated UNESCO-- so go soon. There were no formal tours during off season but there was a wonderful young man who worked there and provided tons of interesting information and even... More

A little castle museum, really unique. As I have never been there before I was positive superprise to learn which position Nyborg has had in the Danish History. Really interesting and not as I have expected.
