Really cool

Very cool place to go check out. Very historic Not the easiest to get to by car, better have a jeep. Steep hills. Be careful.

I had a private tour guide and we drove on rough roads to get there but it was worth it. He knew a lot about the history, and it was just so fascinating that the locals had built a new hidden town, away from pirates and stayed for so long. I loved walking through the relics and remains of old... More

A heady climb to this fortified and fascinating Village which illustrates perfectly how life must have been in the days when sea bourne thieves raided the islands. There is a pretty beach taverna in season which photographs well. You can get a light lunch and a cold beer here in lovely settings. This is port of call for the excursion boats as they... The approach although precarious initially is quite stable and safe for normal 2 wheel drive vehicles. Park at the bottom most car park ala amphitheater. Track winds through low heaths and shrubs. Stop at Agios ioannis chapel where many mobs ago a lightning strike killed those celebrating on a holy day. Which was a reminder to all to always respect... More

There are two ways to get to the old capital of Skiathos situated on the North side of the island, one is by the many boat trips that operate on a daily basis out of Skiathos town, the other by road. The boat trips drop you on the beach and there is then a hike up a very steep rough... More

We had a lovely time walking around the old town, we found it very interesting and wished we hadn't got onward commitments so could have stayed longer. The road down to Kastro is extremely steep. We travelled down on a quad bike and found it quite hair raising. Cars and other vehicles had made it down also. Not a good... More

You can access Kastro via a boat trip or drive along to the tip of the island and park. Its well worth either route. Il Kastro was where Skiathos residents lived for hundreds of years to protect themselves from invading Pirates. its mostly in ruins but has a few churches and old houses to pop into. the tip is worth... Very remote and at the top of the island. Interesting spot for a wander, lots of historic ruins and churches. Information boards in English provided giving details of the history etc. Need transport to get here. Very steep in places.
