Housed in the magnificent mansion of Hatzigiannis Mexis, one of the lords during the years of the revolution, we find the Museum of Spetses. The imposing listed building, with its impressive high arches, offers welcoming shelter to objects representing more than 4000 years of the island's history. On the ground floor of the building, with the private apartments of Hatzigiannis Mexis, we also find the pre-Mycenaean remains of the Irian shipwreck. On the other two floors, many exhibits are on display, including furniture and household items, traditional costumes, Proto-Hellenic and Classical ceramics, sculptures, coins, tombstones, religious icons, 18th-century European art and important relics of the 1821 Revolution. The last, central position is occupied by the Spetsiot Flag of the Revolution, the weapons and the ossuary of Bouboulina. Very full and meaningful visit!

If you are in Spetses you should visit the museum. The ticket is cheap, for EU-teens is free.
Very interesting about the history and tradition of the island.

A beautiful old Greek mansion houses this two Floor museum. It was General Mexis’s house at one time. The upstairs floor has paintings of old ships, maps and figureheads. In further rooms you’ll see household implements and beautiful traditional clothing. The last rooms has portraits of some of the heros of the War if Independence and amazingly a casket containing the bones of Admiral Bouboulina, the heroic daughter of Spetses who successfully (for a time at least) fought off the Turks, sadly to be killed in a family feud.
The downstairs floor mainly contains amphora. Some very large ones. Made me want to brush up on my Greek as there are few translations.
We enjoyed our visit!

Unfortunatly the museum is very well hidden and the visitor has to look around and walk through the town to find it .It is not sigh posted ! It is an old impressive historical building which is building wise neglected .It definetly needs renovation and some cleaning outside the garden .The building inside is presenting the old style of a house and its belongings which are in a dood condition .It is worth though a visit .The person there in charge was very helpfull

Keep in mind that if you plan to visit after 3 o'clock in the afternoon museum will be closed. So this is an early day activity. There are some hand made sign to help you find it.

Worthwhile visiting but, frankly, Bouboulina’s Museum steals the show. While in Spetses be sure to go to Bouboulina’s Museum first and only then to Spetses Museum - which, by the way, not surprisingly, also partly deals with Bouboulina’s life and deeds.

Housed in an old mansion. The most interesting item is the greek revolution flag raised in Spetses in 1821. Apart from that nothing special. Not a bad visit however.

It's an interesting museum although very small. Even the children enjoyed it (we were a large group with lots of children: toddlers, school kids and teenagers).
The downside- no toilets.
