Located on the headland the site contains the archaeological museum of aegina which purports to be the oldest in Greece, the temple of Apollo is pretty impressive and would have commanded an excellent view in its day

Stumbled across this place by accident. Very interesting with a lovely little museum. Nice views over the harbour too. Definitely worth a visit.

We walked past this enclosed site near our hotel every day - it looked from the outside like a modest archaeological ruin. Not so. Inside the gates, we found the site to contain the remains of a major city settlement dating back to 3,000 BC, with successive buildings on top of older foundations. We stayed on Aegina island for a few nights quite close to this attraction. When we eventually visited we thought it would be good just to tick it off our list. We were surprised when we did visit because the site is much more than it seems. There is a nice museum here with some impressive exhibits from Aegina's bronze... More

The site is full of ancient ruins from the prehistoric to the byzantine period, although the highlight is the "Kolona" (column) of the archaic Temple of Apollo. The fortifications are also interesting, while the landscape is beautiful. The access to the site is really easy, since it is located close to the town of Aegina. A visit to the nearby... More
