It was a medium sized museum and had some interesting finds. They had a room of mosaics, which were neat.

Unfortunately the Spartans did not leave a lot behind. The museum is not so large, some multimedia content would complement well the collection.

Having in mind warrior culture of Spartans and the fact that theypayed no attention to monuments / cultural heritage of that kind I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised whit the museum. Visiting the museum you have much better idea how the society functioned, what was the focus and why. During our visit, july 2016 most important artefact... More

Very poor museum compared to the history of the area. The building is very old and unsuitable for the wealth if keeps. Presentation is old fashioned to say the least.

Given that there wasn't as much to see as we thought in Sparta, this museum was a hidden gem. My kids 9,11 were able to see something interesting without being overwhelmed by too much. Luckily, we had seen the Greek Exhibit in the Field Museum last year, where we saw Leonidas statue. My kids could make a connection with what... More

Not many exhibits but what was there was well chosen and interesting e.g. Mosaics, statuary, masks, pottery etc. Good value.

The exhibit is very informative. However, the loan the status of Leonidas to Canada. That suppose to be the main attraction.

A small museum with very interesting artifacts, displayed in an old-fashioned style. Unfortunately the main exhibit, the bust of Leonidas, was away in some exhibition abroad, but I really like the archaic stele with the beautiful relief. I felt very sad and angry, because Sparta deserves a better museum than this one.
