The story of Helen of Troy is one of the classical stories we are all familiar with. Ah, that face that launched a thousand ships! Agamemnon was one of the heroes who participated in the Trojan War. Helen was the wife of his brother Menelaus....More

Entering the citadel through the prehistoric Lion Gate was absolutely thrilling. We'd already seen the Mycenaean treasures in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens and we'd read extensively about the site in advance. It did not disappoint. This gate was never buried and re-discovered; it's...More

Mycenae was my favourite attraction in Greece in a month of co-directing a study abroad programme there. I've always had a soft spot for the Bronze Age, but standing in front of the Lion's Gate was one of the most exciting moments in my life....More

We love Greek history and visited Mycenae on a 39 degree day in July. We thought we might be beaten off the hillside by the heat, but hats and a bottle of water helped us to get around this large site and smaller museum (good...More

Greece is full of ancient ruins and wonders. Frankly, after a while, it is hard to be impressed by everyone of them. But, Mycenae is still a worthy place to visit. (by the way, so far, my personal favorite is Delos. And that is among...More

Fantastic site with lots to see. Kids particularly enjoyed the lion's gate and the museum. Don't miss the treasury vault which is a short walk from the site and included in the ticket price.

Advertised as 'must see', the ruins are somewhat disappointing. The beehive cemeteries and deep cistern are impressive, though.

Amazing ancient site and remarkably well preserved. The lion's gate was amazing. Great views out toward Nafplio. Be sure to get to the museum. Careful going up and down the walkways...many of the stones are worn smooth and slick. 12Euro entry fee. We arrived around...More

Eventhough visiting with teenagers at a day with 40 degrees everybody thought it interesting - learning a lot (or recapping) about Greek culture and history. Really worth the while

It is kind of a remote location. There were tour groups there with guides and they seemed willing to let others join but I did not see any guides just waiting on site.
