Great museum to learn more about the historu
The archaeological museum of Thessaloniki was high on our list of places to visit while in the city and it didn't disappoint. I found the first exhibition area on the ground floor very well presented with interesting exhibits. The Derveni papyrus exhibit was one of my favourite items in the museum. Also, I really enjoyed the temporary exhibition about the past temporary exhibitions of the museum - it was very unique.

History Unfolds Here by Discovering Ancient Cities and Tombs Accidentally
You can download the Museum Go App and use it to navigate and explain the displays. Start by going downstairs first. This is the history of the museum itself but full of artifacts. Don’t spend more than about an hour there and then start at the beginning of cities. 4 hours or up to 8 if you read every display. The last section is the Gold of Macedonia. The written language is in Greek and English.

    Well planned out museum
This museum had excellent artifacts and the exhibits were well lit and easy to read. It had a lot of sarcophagus and the contents found. I like how they explained everything. It cost 8 euros per person and it took us about 2 hours to walk through.

    Some real star attractions
A relatively compact museum spread over three floors. However you could spend anywhere between 1.5 hours to 3 hours to fully explore. The different segments have different content; the paleolithic/neolithic has a highly educational aspect. The Mycenae gold exhibition has a real wow factor - with some stellar examples of Bronze Age bling. The Derventie papyrus is fascinating.

A great museum. A lot of archaeological exhibits and guided tours. Also the staff are polite, and the whole place generally is modern.

Some amazing finds on display, stunning gold jewellery, particularly the six golden head wreaths of myrtle leaves. Lots to see, all well labelled and preserved.

The museum is very well organized and offers a wide exhibition which makes it worth it to spend a couple of hours there. Tha staff, especially the lady at the ticket office and the lady at the entrance are super nice and have been very helpful with the audio guides and all the important information I needed to get the best experience, thank you!
