The new and modern museum is absolutely packed with incredible artefacts, icons and relics. It’s brilliantly laid out, really great explanatory notes everywhere and cleverly designed to lead you through the different ages of the Byzantine period. My son and I loved this museum and...More

Well organized and presented, a journey through history illuminated with objects from the obscure to the magnificent. The restaurant is also lovely.

Air Conditioned! So felt great! Very clean. Very well done. Amazing artifacts arranged in a way that gave you a good feel of this era in a good chronological layout. Teenagers who like history loved it and got good pictures because everything wasn't behind glass.

The Museum was one of our "must stop" places on our recent visit and we weren't disappointed - there were lots of well constructed exhibits with easy to understand explanations (without too much explanation, which can often be the case!) and we felt we were...More

Identical as any other Byzantine museum; icons status etc but if you like those kind of religious history you will enjoy it. For me it was ok. Sometimes interesting.

I spent a couple hours here. The greatest disappointment was that the bookstore was closed due to staffing issues. Really interesting exhibits as you wind your way up the building. They tell the history of Byzantium and the area. Final exhibits on religious icons were...More

Visited on a week day afternoon and the museum was virtually empty. The layout follows the Byzantine era in chronological order with interesting and informative displays. Frustratingly the shop was not open so we were unable to buy a book on the period.

Very good thoughful design of museum building, and moreover of the expositions. It is not overcrowded with exhibits, the have proper lighting, and good amount of explanations. Some are very impressive, more so in total. The dates of icon paintings seem questionable, though
