I enjoyed the exhibits as much as the building itself. Unique in terms of Byzantine treasures, quite self-explanatory signage (although no museum map was available) I was impressed by the paintings of Mary and the Child and the family maps of Byzantine emperors. As a Canadian of Greek herotage, these was a few gaps on Greek history. The visit to the Byzantine and Macedonian museums helped fill in a few of those gaps. Worth the visit!

It is a mangificent collection of Byzantine history with unimaginable treasures from a glorious era. Emperors and Orthodoxy, an absolute must for all visitors

We have seen much better Byzantine collections in Athens, Istanbul, New York. Really pretty run of the mill collection with heavy doses of glazed bowls and blown up photos, as well as coins that are so poorly lit one can't make out any of the markings. my wife and I visited the museum of byzantine during our thessaloniki trip. wonderful exhibits, showing the beauty and history during byzantine period. rooms filled with memorabilia during 4th century era. it's great to learn something, in every places you traveled.

An excellent museum.covering 11 centuries of Byzantine life politics and art. Early christian era 4th to 6th century. Middle byzantine period. Paleologan period. Byzantium after the Ottoman conquest. Note the gold bracelets and the silk garment. The marble sculptures. The incredible marble icons. The Paleologan icons. A must see museum.

This is a beautiful museum and definitely worth the visit. It has several rooms and from first to last you navigate throughout byzantine culture from beginning to end. It's amazing the amount of different items that are in exhibition, from coins to books and a large quantity of paintings, from jewels and other everyday stuff to weaponry. It can take... More
