From virtually anywhere in Kavala I could see the Aqueduct - it became a handy reference point for me. I was very impressed with its size and cleanliness. I enjoyed watching cars drive through some of the massive arches. Made for some great photos.

The aqueduct was named Kamares by Sultan Suleiman The Great who rebuild it in order to provide the town with water. Today it is a real architectural and historic marvel for town of Kavala, especially on sunset!!

We visited Kavala on a day trip from Thassos, and immediately saw the beautiful aqueduct. Look out for the two houses built between the arches - no longer occupied.
