About
One of the island's oldest 'hideaway' villages (of Venetian origins). Undeniably its best preserved. To get into the history*, do a little research on its history ahead of your visit to enjoy the whole village experience. There are 130 houses, 1 shop, 5 tavernas & 8 churches. The village has been gently coming back to life over the past 12 years, from 12-15% restored to over 35%+ today (it's 'work in progress' ;)) This was thanks to an Anglo-Dutch couple [Mark & Saskia] who came to the village back in 2010 made numerous improvements & restored 3 ruins as a (now) famous b&b (sold in 2021). You can get the most out of your visit with the best combination walking tour & history of the village with 'The Official Guide to Old Perithia' available at: old-perithia.com - a hand/handbag sized book including a self-guided 2.5km circular walk around the village & the fascinating history of its past, present & future. As featured on ITV, Channel 4, the BBC and numerous press articles worldwide.

Great location for a half to one day trip
Our family of four didn't want a pure beach vacation when visiting Corfu last fall. Old Perithia was one of the places we decided to explore. While we didn't spend the night, we stayed a great part of the day, marveling at the beautiful partly crumbled away buildings, enjoying a delicious lunch in one of the restaurants, as well as buying locally produced honey and a few souvenirs.

    Beautiful history
Old perithia is a bit off the beaten track but it’s so worth it. It’s so beautiful and there’s a couple of little taverna’s there. Lots of old buildings and some lovely animals up there. Well worth a trip.

This is a beautiful spot. The village is lovely but one should be careful as the path leading to the centre can be very slippy! We ate a one restaurant but the food was sadly disappointing. I think it is because they have captive audience. Whilst we were there we followed a route to the caves but they are difficult to reach and personally I would avoid the route. However whilst we were searching for the caves we were lucky to spot eagles - certainly birds of prey and to hear them call. Sadly we didn't have our binoculars to identify them properly but I am certain they were eagles by the call. This is an incredible drive and the views are well worth the trip.

Old Perithia is a beautiful, quiet place away from ordinary tourist resorts. I stayed at The Merchant's House for two nights, and enjoyed the comfortable, beautiful room, the homemade breakfast and the atmosphere. I walked the selfguided tour around the village, bought local honey from the bee keeper, had wonderful meals at the tavernas and just relaxed in the peaceful environments.

A highlight of our trip to Corfu. Well worth the drive up into the hills on relatively good but winding roads. The village is interesting and the Bee keeping family and their vast array of honey is great. Some great little traditional tavernas with great food and cake. Best Tzatziki I had on the Island. Spectacular views down to the coast. Well worth a visit.

We hired a car, enjoyed the surprisingly smooth roads to climb up into the mountains to the Old Perithia historic old buildings with eight churches. There was a lack of information on the history of the place just a fixed map showing the walking circuit along the village. We were impressed with the natural landscape covered with wildflowers including yellow autumn crocus, lizards and butterflies with wonderful views across the mountains. Enjoyed chatting to the beekeeper, watching the bees drinking water from the trough and bought a 1kg jar of honey to bring home. Unfortunately, none of the churches were open during our daytime visit.

A walk down history lane into this village. Looking into the deserted houses you get the feel of history, what life must have looked like in the past, when this village was "alive". You can appreciate the building and architecture and enjoy the look of nature taking over. A two story high fig tree, an inside of a house covered by thick ivy. Beautiful experience.
We visited in August, it was rather hot, and we made it a point to arrive early. This is very recommended. We has the best time touring around and then at the end sat in one of the tavernas to enjoy drinks, salads and deserts.

One of the oldest villages in Corfu, this was once a prosperous village but had fallen into disrepair after being abandoned. Now some of the houses have been restored into homes to live in again and some of the churches are being refurbished. Few little tavernas (nice moist honey & walnut cake and homemade lemonade!) No map as such, although there was one pinned onto the garden wall of the first (rebuilt) house on the left after the taverna, so that gives an idea of the route to take round and what is to see. Fascinating place, popular now (more known about now than the old ruined town of Muna, Corsica, which we visited 20+ years ago and was truly abandoned apart from one old timer still hanging in there!) Lovely wildlife as well, so hope that all doesn't disappear as more properties are rebuilt...

Well worth a visit. We were in the North end of the island so this wasn't too far for us and we had hired a car. Its great to get away from the beach for a day and climb up into the mountains. ( Drive slowly to save the car! ) The village tells the tale of an era long gone with historic old buildings and wonderful views across the mountains. There are lots of family businesses ( mainly all related in some way ) . we walked to the gardens of the bee keepers and bought honey and bee face cream. The tavernas are very traditional, try the cake it was delicious !! As someone else has said just chill and soak up the atmosphere!!
