Black sand would be an improvement. Sadly this beach is all grey sand and rocks. Don't worry, if you stay in one of the big hotels they have roped off areas with decking, sun lounges and parasols. Some areas are grassed.

Sun loungers, umbrellas and free cocktails from the beach bar all part of the service for Sheraton Hotel customers. A Thai lady attended everyday offering personal massages on your sun bed for reasonable prices.
