After a quite long trip through a narrow and binding road you can find on top of a mountain a building whose architectural features remind of the old alpine resorts throughout Europe. The building has a restaurant with a big salon furnished with art deco objects that remind of the first half of last century's hotels. All around there is... More

This is a relatively short but reasonably demanding walk. It is good exercise and being almost 1000m high and wooded a welcome relief from the sun. It is a nice drive there through the valleys and small villages. Park you car in the car park between the taverna and hotel and walk back out of the car park and bear... More

Panoramic route brought us to Profitis Ilias and it's such a nice place to spend time, far from the city and the chaos.

This is very interesting to see. What an insight into the past. You need to be physically able to walk up the steps to this derelict building. The best way and easiest way to drive is on the Rhodes Town - Lindos road where you turn off for Kolymbia look for the sign post for Profitis Ilias and just follow the sign posts.... Wow, what a wonderful place. Up on the hill in this village is what is know as Mussolini's house/villa (although he never visited) which is derelict and open to the brave few who venture up. No health and safety, no guides but hints of its former glory. Inspiring place even in its terrible state. Then there's an alpine style chalet... More

Lovely, though twisty, drive up to Profitis Ilias through the forest. It is quiet a surprise to come across this place in the middle Rhodes it is a lovely spot to walk around and it is a welcome break from the intense heat of the mid-summer. We visited the hotel for a drink and the children loved the playground and... More

Profitis Ilias is a charming little area that you stumble across on the drive from Kolymbia to Embonas. The drive is lovely through woodland with pine trees and tiny little hamlets with friendly locals. A beautiful fountain is to be found on this road with large Koi fish and other small varieties. The hotel at Profitis Ilias is lovely and... More
