This is just a very cool cave and a great experience. There are many, many steps, though, so be prepared.

Amazing natural feature to visit in Antiparos! Was initially weary about the 400+ steps down but there are rest stops along the way so do-able but there is a disclaimer for people with heart disease, respiratory issues etc...so check before going.

This is a small cave with some very impressive formations. There are 400 steps deep into cave - with platforms to stop, rest and admire the formations. Some lights were out but you still had good visibility. Beware the steel handrails. The edges of the supports holding the rail are extremely sharp - cutting my husband finger quite deep.

It kept on going and seeing it with my family. It is beautiful and definitely worth seeing while visiting Antiparos.

Last visited these caves 13 years ago and really enjoyed the visit. However, this time there were significant sections of stairs with no light at all and none of the lights “in” the steps worked anymore. Needs some urgent maintenance before someone goes tumbling! Could also do with some info about the history of the place.

Breathtaking sight but one way down crosses over with one way back! Lights missing in places & slippy steel handrails in the humidity made it feel a little unsafe ( intrepid traveller!)

Location: In the mountainous interior of Antiparos Island, on mountain Ai Yiannis, 171 metres above sea level (panoramic views). The place is secluded, calm, brings about reflection and tranquillity. You can easily reach the cave from the port of Antiparos (about 10-15 minutes’ drive).

Admission fee (budget range): €3 per adult.

Attraction: Famous cave in Antiparos, a historic place of refuge (‘Katafygi’ meaning shelter) in the Neolithic period, the cave later became a place of cult and religion to worship the Goddess Artemis. A chapel borders the entrance of the cave outside. Descent in the cave through 400 steps. The maximum depth is 100 metres. The chambers of the cave are impressive with huge stalactites (the most ancient in Europe), altars, Cathedrals, mysterious engravings. The attraction is well maintained.

The cave is well secured (handrails on the stairs, lighting, cameras). It is a pity, however, that some tourists still mark their name next to the historical engravings in the walls of the cave.

Good to know: There is a bar in the summer, but it is closed during the low season and the shoulder months. We recommend that you bring enough water and wear comfortable shoes (many stairs and steep descents). There are clean toilets (free to use).

Must-visit in Antiparos, Greece.

We would happily revisit the Cave of Antiparos.

Decided to take in this site and was glad we did. Beautiful rock formations. Very humid down there but if you can handle it than it’s worth it. Stairs were easy, but many of them. Well lit up so you always felt safe when walking.
I think it’s a must see!

Amazing to look at throughout. You do need to have a good head for heights especially at the start when you can see many metres down! The stairs are concrete with full handrails both sides all the way which made it easy to walk down and up. I’m not the fittest but made it all the way with plenty of places to rest on the way. Definitely recommend a visit.
