Well worth a visit, an educational reminder of what the islanders endured during Hitler's attempt to control the world

Try the excellent WW2 exhibition at the Historical Museum on the seafront. There is also an marvellous WW2 museum at Askifou on the mountain road south from Rethymon

A lot of interesting items but not tagged or catalogued. If you do not have reasonable knowledge of the tools of war you will not be able to understand much. The staff are basically disinterested and seem to resent the intrudance

Still closed and has been for two years.Such a shame as it is really interesting. Lacking funds to re=open it. Maybe when Greece sorts its problems out it will reopen.
