Magnificent small monastery dating back centuries. There is a small museum with icons and religious silverware. The church interior is beautiful with ancient frescoes; no photos allowed in the church. The entry fee is only €2 and gentleman issuing the tickets spoke excellent English and was happy to share more information on the monastery. There is parking by the monastery which is free,

We stopped here on our Viking tour. It's a peaceful spot, very nicely kept. They told us that it's actually not technically a monastery anymore: there were only three monks left, so seven nuns now live there! Also, the villagers are active in taking care of the gardens, etc. Pretty church and some outdoor altars for candle-lighting.

While driving to the plateau you should make a short stop here. Nice little monastery with a long history. Visit the church and enjoy the views.

We really enjoyed visiting this lovely place. There was a baptism happening there which was lovely to see. The place is beautiful and well worth a visit from Heraklion despite it is about 45 minute drive by car. No idea why it is listed under Heraklion.

This is such a lovely monastery. The drive up to it is lovely with amazing views. The scenery around the monastery is breathtaking. There is a lovely museum with great byzantine icon pantings. there is a lovely smell everywhere of herbs and flowers. The buildings are wonderful and full of history and there is also a very nice shop. Being high up the mountain the views are very special everywhere you look

Beautiful tranquil place! The lady inside the church was very helpful in describing the alter paintings. The religious articles were old and well taken care of. Cover up your legs and shoulders to be allowed into visit. They have wraps you can use!

We visited this ite on a coach trip. Unfortunatly it was cloudy so the views were restricted. The monastary is well preserved and our guide was knowlegable on the history of the site and it's relics.

This recently renovated Monestary in the mountains towards the Lasitthi Plateau is a nice little stop and offers good views over the valley as well as a dense, authentic atmosphere inside the old little church. Do not take photos (even selfies) or sit with you legs crossed or the supervising nun will attach you.
