The Central Open Market in Heraklion is along 1866 Street. There are a lot of shops, most of them catering to tourists.
Not worth a detour to visit, you can find the same articles in any tourist shop in the city.

Visited here with my hubby and kids recently. I was a little disappointed, to be honest. It's no different to any other side street selling cheap tourist tat. There are maybe 1 or 2 decent shops, but I was sorry we had bothered with it, really. You could pick up most of the wares here anywhere in crete. A lot of the other shops are overpriced and out to make money from tourists - we paid €30 for 5 scoops of ice-cream, only that the day was so hot and the boys wanted a treat I'd have walked out. Unless it's in your way, I really wouldn't bother....

Only I this part of Crete for day, spent time in the main streets, eating and shopping which we found fantastic. Good prices, range and quality. The swam at nearby beach from a cafe ran beach, also well looked after.

Very nice place to shop and to eat street food.
It's close to the port with a great view, you can buy clothes, local food and treats, listen to local music, bags, rags, toys, and more.

I liked it!

This is the street to visit. Interesting shops and a real feel for the city. Leather goods and bags. A lovely wander on a sunny day.

Located in the heart of town, there is a mixture of shops here to look at. Touristy knick knacks, leather goods, wood, ceramics as well as food produce and cafes. Some are really good quality and some aren’t. Walk the length and then stop at Lion Square for a Bougatsa.

We were there on Sunday, I believe all other days are a bit more fun for shopping! Some places were open and we found some souvenirs. Was not to crowded and we enjoyed the visit.

We spent over an hour strolling in and out of the shops. The road is closed to tragic and the shops have fronts like market stalls. There was no hassling just lovely polite shop keepers who were happy to help.

Very pleasant place to stay. Old town is full of historical landmarks. But new town is full of colours of the modern world. Don´t miss a street market which takes place every saturday . There is awesome atmosphere typical for Greece especially for lovely Crete island .
