The Central Open Market in Heraklion is along 1866 Street. There are a lot of shops, most of them catering to tourists. Not worth a detour to visit, you can find the same articles in any tourist shop in the city.

Visited here with my hubby and kids recently. I was a little disappointed, to be honest. It's no different to any other side street selling cheap tourist tat. There are maybe 1 or 2 decent shops, but I was sorry we had bothered with it, really. You could pick up most of the wares here anywhere in crete. A lot of the other shops are overpriced and out to make money from tourists - we paid €30 for 5 scoops of ice-cream, only that the day was so hot and the boys wanted a treat I'd have walked out. Unless it's in your way, I really wouldn't bother....
