Had a lovely day out to Spinalonga back in September, it is somewhere that i must admit surprised me by how interesting it was. I thought that i was the type of person to not enjoy a visit to an historical landmark, however upon arriving on the island i felt really drawn into the story told by the tour guide... More

This was a great day trip, just to get out the hotel with the kids. It is interesting, given the history of the place. However in reality there is not a great deal to do after you've walked around the island.

We went here due to my wife reading about Spinalonga in Victoria Hislop's book the Island. It was a venetian fort then turned into an island for Crete's then Greece's lepers. Amazing story and well worth the boat trip. We went from Plaka which is a short trip

This is an amazing place. Read The Island by Victoria Hislop first and then make sure you book a trip to Spinalonga. It's an incredible place and feels alive with the history of the people who lived there.

Did this trip ourselves. Easy enough to do. Great morning out. We went in the morning because it was cooler. Take lots of watertodrink. Our guide was very informative.

We booked this trip at our apartments (Sunrise - Koutouloufari). Coach trip from Hersonissos, then boat from Elounda to Spinalonga. This was a fabulous trip, and if you've read the book "the island" is a must see - must go trip. the trip we went on called at a bay on the return boat trip for a swim and a... More

For anyone who has read The Island by Victoria Hislop this is a 'must visit'. Drive to Plaka and take one of the small fishing boats over to the Island. They go every twenty minutes or so and take about 10 minutes. There are also larger boats from Elounda. If you have read the book or studied the history of... More

The island is a former leper colony with a story of resilience, hope and courage.Treat yourself to a seafood lunch/casual swim.

If you have read the book, the story about people who were affected by Leprosy and were sent to live on this little island to live out their lives, their story will come to life in front of your eyes. If like me you have not read the book, visit the island, look at the tiny houses they had to... More

If you visit or as I do live in Crete you must visit Spinalonga. A site of indisputable history once a Turkish Fortress then a leper colony. Read the bestselling fiction 'The Island' by Victoria Hislop but realise the true facts! Take the ferry from Plaka not Elounda it is quicker & cheaper & Plaka is far nicer!
