We visited Agios Nikolous and right in the centre found this very interesting church. Quite unusual from the outside but well worth a photo or two.

Interesting Church

Attractive church in the centre of Chania Old Town which has had a long and varied history and several uses. A booklet is available for only €2.
Traditional Cretan music dancing is performed some evenings on the plaza outside.

Interesting Church

A church, that like many during the Ottoman occupation, was turned into a Mosque. It is now a church again, but the Minaret still stands.

Liked the interior because of all the polished brass and reddish orange trim.

Impossible to visit

Able to see only from outside since it was closed. Very central area. The cross up in the tower is dangerously tilted almost falling !

Interesting that the building was both a Christian Church and a Mosque. Not a grand building nor particularly beautiful. Not worth going out of your way

Good photo opportunity

My wife and I as part of a tour group visited the Church of Saint Nikolaos in Chania Town, Crete in August 2019. The church was a former mosque and had both a minaret and a bell tower. It is a good photo opportunity.

Quiet place for prayer but not really our scene

As active believing Christians we visit many churches of various denominations but this one would be near the bottom of the list. Go for the monastery at the eastern end of the island - it is superb.

Very interesting architecture having a tower and a minaret

Its a historical orthodox church with a minaret remaining for the Turkish period in Crete. Very beautiful inside and nice square outside of the church.

An Interesting Church

This church has some very interesting architecture, with it tall minaret. It is one of many interesting buildings in Chania and shows the influences of the many different nations that have inhabited Chania.

Small and interesting

Does not take long to walk around this small church. We found it very interesting to see and soak up the beautiful atmosphere. We lit candles and it was a welcome moment of peace and coolness from the heat and busy streets of Chania.
