Museum visit

Very good modern museum with much to see all around. Enjoyed seeing all the statutes, art and the architectural dig down below the museum that is carefully being secured.

A very modern, airconditioned museum with loads of wonderful artifacts to admire. Do have a look at the video about the acropolis. I can guarantee you'll find it interesting. Also have a coffee or a refreshing drink on the rooftop. It's a bit on the pricey side but wit a view of the acropolis, you won't be disappointed. Do be... More

Great to go along with a trip to the Acropolis so that you can get the whole understanding of the history of Athens. This museum holds lots of artifacts that were once up in the Acropolis but are being reserved and restored for future generations to be enjoyed as well. Also a good view of the Acropolis from the top... More

Wow! The museum was excellent probably the highlight of our 3day stay in Athens, it has been set out well, the displays are awesome and even though it was quite busy it didn't feel cramped, there was a que to get in, however that moved quickly and efficiently which can be unusual for Greece! Thoroughly enjoyed by both my husband... More

You must visit the Acropolis Museum before visiting the Acropolis itself. The history and the making of the acropolis is given in such detail. We spent 4 hrs in this museum, well worth it! Made visiting the Acropolis even better!

Give yourself a couple of hours to wander round taking in the statues and the story of the Acropolis. There is a lot to take in if you're taking yourself round. We did that and probably missed key parts, there were tours going round so it might be worth looking into them to get an overview. There is a nice... More

This museum is definitely worth to visit if you are interested in history or / and architecture. Great way to display the historic pieces and also give the feeling of Akropol and surrounding area in ancient times. It is a pity that they are not selling also the join ticket to museum and Akropol itself.

I went there in the morning at about 9 AM, and that was the perfect hour - there was almost no other visitors and the weather was still nice and "cool". The tickets are 5 euro, but if you are a student/pupil you have a free entrance. This museum is very modern and well-organised. Despite the fact that I am... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
