Take advantage of the glorious Athens weather and catch a movie with cheap drinks (Beer, wine, spirits, etc) and z great fun atmosphere. Open air cinemas have a real history in Athens....there are once more than 600!

We Northerlings seldom have the opportunity of going to an outdoor movie theatre > in Greece this is quite normal. There is a good bar in this cinema, centrally located in Plaka, mostly showing a bit more art house movies then block busters. And at the same time, looking a bit up and to the left: Acropolis Hill!

Highly recommended. Great value (especially Tue/Wed when tickets are cheaper) considering the location. Lovely views of the Acropolis too. Only downside was the slightly uncomfortable chairs (could do with a cushion), but for the price I shouldn't complain!

I thought this was a very unique experience with a great location. Having the Acropolis loom over the theatre from a distance was awesome. The regular cost of a move is 8€ but on Tuesdays and Wednesdays it is 6€.

Taking in a film at Cine Paris is a great way to spend a calm evening in Athens. Purchase tickets at the window on the street level, browse old cinema posters, then head upstairs to grab a snack/drink and choose your seat. The night I visited, there was an amazing lightning storm over the Acropolis! Such a great way to... More

Amazing place and you can see the Acropolis. Nothing like it in the world! Beers are reasonable and the popcorn was tasty.

One of several open-air or rooftop movie theaters in Athens, this one offers views of the Acropolis (all you can see is the brick retaining wall, but it's still a pretty astonishing location), a snack bar including alcohol and icecream, and comfortable canvas chair seating. Excellent way to unwind on warm evenings after a day of sightseeing.

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
