We visited the Plaka District upon our arrival to Athens, and loved the liveliness of the area. We went up the steps to rooftop dining with views of the Acropolis, and enjoyed long meals just for the views!

Such a wonderful location, the people are fantastic, the atmosphere is brilliant and the coffee shops and restaurants are excellent. Go to the Scholarchio traditional family restaurant for dinner. They bring the food for a set price depending on the number of people and you choose from the dishes brought to your table. All are excellent. Four people 60 euro,... More

Plaja was the residential centre of the most recent centuries. Narrow streets, small houses, plenty of restaurants. Several edestrian zones. Sit down for a coffee and enjoy!

Very safe, very nice area in Athens. It's pretty touristy, as are the shops, but it is within easy (10 min) walking distance to pretty much every site in Athens. Highly recommend!

The many artists and artisan galleries were great but you have to put up with a lot of souvenir shops before you find a good gallery. Still worth it.

Also a must see place with the many shops but don't hesitate to leave the small streets because nearby you will find also small and nice shops. The all area smells and sounds Greece. We did buy our souvenir.

Plaka is a must to see if visiting Athens. Many historical sites are in the general vicinity of Plaka. Restaurants all have similar menus and are not cheap. Very touristy with a lot of tacky souvenir shops. Visit all the historical sites and then head out of Plaka to see the real side of Athens

Just under the Acropolis this area is a great place to explore. Mostly pedestrianised and a great place to stroll around. Lots of touristy shops. It ouses the magic of Athens.

This is the oldest section of Athens. It is located below the slopes of the Acropolis. It is a village within the city. You will find numerous restaurants, cafes, taverns and tourist shops with visiting.

If you're a tourist, you do what tourists do. And tourists go to The Plaka District forfood and shopping. It is like every European tourist area and it is worth a visit.

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
