We arrived by metro to the Irini station. Then you are straight into the olympic park.
There are security fences but clearly there is an openning so you can go in and wonder around and imaging what it would've bene like.
Buildings are closed (there is a climbing centre in one building and we were allowed too use their toilets) but other than that you can only look through windows.
Shame the stadium was totally closed off.
We stumbled across an olympic museum at the end of the complex beyond the stadium which was brilliant.
If you are an Olympic fan then this place is a "must".
Just a shame that the city cannot find a use for the site as it feels a massive missed opportunity.

I've visited Athens over 10 times, but this was my first visit to this Olympic complex.
It was built for the 2004 Olympics and consists of several venues for all sports.
The complex is located in the northern Athens suburbs, so ignore some reviews here saying this is the historic marble stadium - IT IS NOT - that one is in downtown Athens.
We visited it for the Iron Maiden concert held here on 16/07/22.
Before the concert we walked around the huge complex grounds, seeing a lot of modern, but at the same time neglected architecture.
The main stadium is certainly the biggest attraction - outstanding modern design.
It reminds on Santiago Calatrava's architecture with an extensive use of curved metal structures (maybe even he is a designer, I don't know).
The stadium inside is enormous - despite the fact there were 50.000 fans at the Iron Maiden concert it looked semi-empty - the upper seating ring wasn't even put to sale.
Seeing that huge space and other semi neglected buildings around, I recalled an article I've read few years ago that the Greek financial crisis and bankruptcy started with organizing the Olympics.

We were a group of travellers from Canada, and stopped for a photo op at the Olympic stadium that was built for the first modern day Olympics in 1896. It is the only stadium in the world completely made of marble. It seats 72,000. Very impressive stadium, with all sorts of interesting structures. Worth a visit if in Athens!

Freaking amazing place. Must see for tourists and locals, but I get a feeling not a lot of tourists come here. On a beautiful, cool Jan day there were families playing, kids skating, and people just hanging out. The Olympic buildings are amazing and a non-stop photo opportunity. There are clean and modern public bathrooms in the Golden Mall. Come here and prepare to talk lots of photos. Drive or take the Athens Metro.

Enjoyed a mini tour of the massive Olympic Stadium which hosted the 2004 Olympics. Me and my family were ones of a very small amount of people who got to go into the stadium, learn about the history of the stadium and its situation after the financial crisis in Greece for example. The man showing us the stadium was very kind and very educated in what he did. After showing us around the stadium, we got souvenirs! It was a very unique experience and the potential of the stadium as one od Athens' main tourist sites is huge. If you ever do come to Athens, do visit the stadium as it is a valuable site to see.

Came here to go and see the AEK olympiacos Derby game. Excellent venue. There might have only been 24000 in attendance but there was a great atmosphere.. I've never seen so many flares and smoke bombs in my life, or heard so many bangers at a football match!! The fans never stopped singing for the whole game. The football itself was poor but I enjoyed the whole occasion

Cool to just look around for free. Some of the buildings are in use, some not. Doors are open just go and see how were the Olympics back in 2004. Great architecture!

I love the Olympics and for the 16 days it's on the rest of the world ceases to exist. With that in mind it was bitter sweet coming here. On positive it was cool to visit the home of 2004 Olympics but in the negative you can see the neglect; with the knowledge of what happened to Greek Economy in years to follow you can't help but think White elephant. At least the main the Olympic stadium is still in use and if I had a chance I definitely would have attended a game.
