Neighbourhood: Exarchia
Exarchia is in many ways Athens’ best-kept secret, discovered by relatively few international visitors. Located behind the main University and Polytechnic buildings, it is unsurprisingly home to many students, intellectuals and politicos. This is reflected in the area’s vibrant street art and graffiti, which seems to cover almost every inch of wall space. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as its most alternative bars and underground music venues. You'll find political bookshops and quirky stores here, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families and older folk. On Saturdays, punks and grandmothers alike head for Kallidromiou Street, nestled below Strefi Hill, to pick up fresh produce at the traditional laiki agora (street market).

Market almost only dedicated to fruits and vegetables (There was two stands for fresh fish, one or two for spices to season your dish, and we only saw one stand where there was « mountain herbal infusion »
We only saw very few tourist.

Price may be the same or a little above what you see at supermarket or small shops, but the quality is way above.Next to that, we didn’t investigate but I would think that the pieces from there are more « local » and more tasty and healthy

I would suggest to:
- When you buy, don’t hesitate to select your fruits and really check the size of them you want.
- Check in advance the vegetable and fruits from the season and also from where they come from (For example you may see avocatos more pricy in some stands but it’s because they are from Crete, which is know for their avocatos, …)
- Do the road and check the fruits with their price and HOW THEY LOOK (some are cheaper but there are a reason)
- When it’s fruits that’s it’s easy to taste a bit like Oranges, do not hesitate to ask to see the quality
- Try to buy multiple from the same vendor so you can ask a small favor (for instance we bought for 20€ fruits at a stand and we had a 50% discount on another buy of 5€). I doubt that it’s possible to have 20% for instance, but more, one or more additional items for free.

Lots of people to watch. Fresh veggies but must eat within a couple of days. Careful of price, make sure you agree on price/weight before transaction is complete.

I love farmers’ markets and we passed through this one on our way to lunch in this neighborhood. Such colorful veggies—masses of tomatoes, purple eggplants of several varieties, many kinds of olives, plus carrots, lettuce, melons, beans, and even some fish. It’s a mouthwatering experience and fun to see even if you are a tourist and can’t buy anything!

The worst popular market in Athens is in Daphne. Now, in the summer, it works every Saturday on Othonos Street. Few producers with products "waste" by themselves are advertised as "baby honey"!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and sold at expensive prices. Many of them are somewhat fragile right-wing extremists (see their comments) who when you smell the fruits before you buy them they tell you authentically "Be careful not to hit!". Some other bitches think they will get rich by selling carrots!!! and they have 1.20 a kilo June and July months. In fact, if you ask them about the very expensive price they ironically say that "it is a brand name"!!!!!! In a few words, Away from EKEY. NEVER THERE. Spread it.
