What we could see from the street confirmed its impressive imposing stature. Ornate and mostly in white it is set in fine gardens.
It was interesting to learn that plans to construct a Palace were initiated by the then King in 1868 on the birth of his son, the Crown Prince, to whom the Palace would be gifted on his coming of age.
It was completed in 1897 and continued as a Royal residence until 1924 when a Republic was declared. On restoration of the Monarchy in 1935 it reverted to Royalty for close on the next 40 years.
Since 1974 it has been the President’s residence. It was great to see the ceremonial Presidential Guard, the famous Evzones, marching in front. Being Sunday we were fortunate to see them in their most exuberant uniform.
This incorporates the kilt-like Foustanella that features 400 pleats signifying the 400 years of Ottoman occupation.
It is fascinating that their impressively heavy shoes feature about 60 nails at base to replicate the sound of battle when they march.

We visited in mid October during covid restrictions. Plenty of space to watch the changing of the guard. You can get very close. It's also free, as you can't go in the mansion. Across the road is the national garden.

PROS
* Home of the head of state of Greece
* Impressive ornate and shiny white mansion located on quiet shaded street
* Pleasant garden within the gates
* Guarded 24 hours a day by the famous Evzones in their ceremonial uniforms and choreographed maneuvers
CONS
* Not open to the public- at all
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because I wanted to see it after watching and observing the ritual Changing of the Guards ceremony in front of the Hellenic Parliament. We traversed the National garden to get to the tranquil shaded quiet street where the mansion is located.
At first, I actually wasn't sure which white ornate mansion it was. But then we saw the guard boxes and the Evzones doing their choreographed guarding and marching exercises.
We could get incredibly close to them- it would have been unimpeded to touch them. I wanted to parallel their march and walk along side them, but my daughter advised that I not try that, so we watched from a very close place.
seeing the guards in action and close-up made the visit to be worthwhile.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It was free
WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Only to see the guards in action from close up
ADVICE
Come here to see the Evzone guards from a closer perspective than the one that you can get in front of the Hellenic Parliament

I dont know why people are putting, adding reviews in relation to this place but i will say that you cannot see the place, you cannot visit the mansion. Only outside and not on the path that is next to the mansion.
Yes, there is some military guards and you can see them as they are trained to become better military guards. Stay away from them as they will have some "funny" moves with the old, really old riffles.
And yeah, the mansion is well protected by the lots of police officers and I mean lots and all the because the street is important in Athens as next door to Presidential Mansion is PM Mansion (prime ministers house) and no military guard outside only lots, lots of police officers.

Nestled as it was amidst the greenery- this was an enticing building to snap lots of photographs of from the exterior.

This mansion is in the center of town on one of the major streets around the big park areas in the center. Lots of security around it, for obvious reasons, so you can't get close.

This is a very impressive site and mansion, well protected by the guards. I walked past and was wowed by the lovely design. I doubt if I would ever be inside.

The palace is located along an orange tree lined road across from the National Gardens. I did not see any listing for public access, so only can be observed from outside the fencing. However, the true attraction is the changing of the Evezones guards with their tsarouchis.

Our guide took us by the Presidential Mansion and the Prime Minister's Residence is next door. Like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, you will only find the guards dressed the same by the Presidential Mansion. Some folks like to take a selfie w/ the guard but I wasn't interested. The guards have a difficult enough time without having to deal w/ tourists.

I was in the area and selected my path along the street of the Presidential Mansion. It is not open to public and I couldn’t find any information about the place in the neighborhood. A lot of police officer, mostly killing time on their cell phones. Military guards are interesting with their weird uniforms and moves. Not worth coming further away, check it out if in the area.
