Neighbourhood: Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.

Went to the Dance Studio on the final night of an organised tour expecting a demonstration or performance of Greek Dancing. Turned out to be excruciating experience where the group was ‘taught’ some Greek dances

The theatre is currently closed. I know this because we arrived here and found it all locked up and was confirmed by caretaker. Although this is not on their website ... I would have thought it would be a good idea for them to provide this Information.

This activity is not very well advertised but it should be. It takes place in an outdoor theatre and the performers are truly enjoying themselves. It is not a performance for tourists only. The evening we went I would say that 90% of the spectators were Greek. Be aware that to get to the theatre and specially after the show, bring a torch or use your phone light as certain areas of the path are not well lit. Also, this does not run all year around, so it is best to go to their website for all necessary information. Good live music with authentic instruments and costumes. I recommend it.

I came across the show by chance online, and decided to use one of my 3 evenings in Athens to watch it. Unfortunately, unknown to me, instead of the usual show I watched dances from all over the world - Indian, Indonesian, Syrian, Austrian, Hungarian - almost everything except Greek dancing!
Turns out that for every evening I'm in Athens the usual show has been suspended. Definitely disappointed, and would have been nice to have been told so when I bought the ticket, but nevertheless, an enjoyable evening.
Also, as an FYI - as a student I only had to pay 5 euros, although that might have been affected by the change from the usual show.

A wonderful Greek culture experience...live music, traditional regional dances and beautiful traditional costumes in an open air theatre. Great value for the cost - 15 Euro. If you go, take the path through the park to get to the theatre...spectacular sunset views. Take an extra layer for the cool evening air and a flashlight for the walk back. Lovely to see and hear such passion and joyful smiles/energy from the dancers and musicians.

Dora Stratou Theater is a marvelous place to experience the traditional dances of Greece. In addition to a performance venue it also has dancing lessons for any one interested with weeks of time. The program features dances from several regions as interpreted by a large ensemble of both male and female dancers. Some of the dances were quite strenuous and expressive. Accompanying the dancers were a mix of instrumentalists and singers who added greatly to the enjoyment of the program. The venue is al fresco so plan ahead according to the weather. Very enjoyable!

Took us a while to find this theater from the Plaka that we resorted to getting a cab, and glad we did 'coz it was NOT in the Plaka area at all. It was a beautiful night with a full moon when we watched the dances. Loved all the costumes and the dance steps they showed. A woman also sang songs that depicted the difference areas of Greece. We got lucky to see the last show of the season! They end their season the last week of Sept. I recommend this show if for ALL tourists!
