I have no idea regarding history of statue but it is an obvious photo opportunity. It is in liberty square which gives you a sense of place.

The Newspaper Vendor Statue on the main square next to the railway station is always the target for the photo-takers. See if you can find it during your visit there.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to find it unless you have some connection to the news industry. But unlike the previous review states the statue is still standing!

This is a quirky statue in the main square. It is something of a tradition in Porto to have your picture taken at the statue.

Both times that I passed this 'attraction', it seemed to be mainly being used for the latter. I would certainly not recommend a special trip to see it, but there are many other real attractions close by that will probably bring you to see it.

The statue is a tribute to newspaper vendors and is located across from the Sao Bento train station. It makes one smile.
