    Wonderful bridge and so photogenic
This is a double decker bridge over the Douro river at Porto. It connects the main city of Porto and the charming Gaia. Both the banks of the river near the bridge is always bustling with crowd. We walked along the lower bridge in the evening towards Gaia where lots of restaurants are there offering the best of port wines Portugal has to offer. On the next morning we again went to the same bank of the river to get a panoramic view of the city from the cable car. It takes people from the riverbank to the top level of the bridge. The views from here are magical. Porto's red tiles houses and blue hue of Douro looks absolutely magical from here on a sunny day. It's an absolute must visit area for anyone who is visiting Porto.

    architectural wonder
This is a double-deck metal arch brige over Douro river between downtown Ribeira distrct and Vila Nova de Gaia. Constructed between 1881 and 1886, it has 172 meters span and the longest one in the world at that time. The chief architect is Gustave Eiffel, yes, the same guy built Eiffel Tower in Paris.

    Amazing sunset.
Designed by the architect of the Eiffel Tower it is a metal bridge over the river. Nice walk on the upper level with lovely views and amazing sunset view after crossing the bridge. Watch out for the metro trains that also run over the upper deck though they are very slow and give adequate warning

    A Must Visit.
Magnificent structure providing amazing views of the river and port area. We visited both the lower and upper decks. Be wary of the upper deck in that trams traverse the bridge on a regular basis with no barriers between pedestrians and trams.

    Historical place
On exploring Porto, I've seen this architecture masterpiece from various places and it is indeed worth visiting. The only irritation is to encounter too many like myself, i.e. tourists. They somewhat spoil the experience and interfere with metrotram which rides over the bridge.

Scenic and convenient link between Porto and Gaia
When visiting Porto, I had occasion to traverse the Ponte multiple times. The lower walking/driving bridge connects Porto and Gaia at river level. It was very convenient to get across without having to scale stairs or ramps all the way up. And the top level has beautiful vistas of the river and the two cities. It allows access to the tops of both cities (mass transit trains also use the bridge). Very convenient and worth some photo ops.

    Upstairs Downstairs
Excellent bridge which can be crossed at the top by foot, tram or alternative vehicles or at the river level by foot or vehicle. The views at either levels are stunning. Their is a cable car on one side, and a funicular at the other, not to mention the multitude of restaurants on both sides.

    A must see!
Fantastic views from both the top and bottom platforms of the bridge. Watch out of the young locals and crazy tourists who regularly jump off. I recommend combining your visit with the funicular and cable cars! At evening the bridge is illuminated, sit in one of the many bars, enjoy a glass of port and the wonderful view!

Definitely a must for a visit
This bridge is definitely a must to visit during your stay in Porto. Of course it’s beautiful from the waterfront but you have to get there either by walk elevator or aerial tramway. Enjoy the stunning view on top of Porto especially during sunset with a glass of wine 🍷.

    Fantastic views
If you do not go on the Ponte de DOM Luis Bridge while in Porto, then I really cant think why you came to Porto. It is truly one of the most memorable Bridges that I have ever been on, and the best for taking photos too. On the other side, you can watch the sun go down. So many people gather on the hill for this. You can also get a cable car down as well.

The bridge is a great view point of the city of Porto and Gaia. On the upper level you have to beware of the train that also goes there, I do not recommend to walk in the middle of the bridge, stay left or right and pass on the other side when sure. Also, maybe not recommended when windy, I went there when it was pretty windy and did not like the feeling. Anyway, it is a must see in Porto, one of its most famous monument.

A walk over the bridge is a necessary stop on most Porto trips. We walked over the much smaller lower level from Cais de Ribeira to the other side of the river, and then walked across the upper level back from Vila Nova de Gaia. Was a nice place to walk; be aware that metro trains cross the bridge too so just be careful.

It is a fair climb to get to the bridge as either via a stairs or walking up steep roads. That being said the bridge itself is truly magnificent and gives you wonderful views of Porto.

The bridge is a stunning piece of engineering from any angle. it is worth walking across the top span for the views across the river and the Port lodges of Porto.

We were lucky enough to have stunning views of this bridge from our apartment and could see it lit up at night in all its glory. There are two levels to it that you can walk across and it is worth doing this to explore both sides of the river. Lots of places to sit and admire this amazing structure while enjoying a drink.

Iconic bridge with great views of Porto and Vila Nova De Gaia. Two levels to the bridge and accessible by road and path. There is a funicular at the side of it to take you up to the top of the city, but this wasn't working when we went. (Be prepared for lots of steep hills and steps!)
We wandered over the bridge a couple of times to visit the other side which is a must! There is lots to do and see over there too.

Great to walk across at both upper and lower levels. The view from the upper level is lovely but the climb up to it is tough. Best thing, it's free

The Puente D. Luis I is one of the landmarks of Porto. It's one of the bridges that connects Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia. It's a metallic bridge that looks stunning when the sun sets and it lights up. Compared to other bridges (like those in Budapest, Prague...), it's a rather ordinary bridge.
