The National Museum is home to 19th and 20th century paintings, sculptures and fine examples of decorative arts. Very few visitors were around while I was there, which is unfair, because the museum is beautiful. But the uncrowded rooms enabled me to take a leisurely walk around the many interesting works of art. I particularly enjoyed a piece called "the... More

I visited this museum by myself in August 2016 as my wife, two children and relatives were not interested. The Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis is best reached by taxi as it is a bit further from the center of Old Porto in terms of walking and taking a taxi can save you time. The museum was interesting and... More

Very good exhibiton and very impressive paintings specially coming for a painter that died with 30 years old in 1918. At the entrance of the exhibition do not loose 7 amazing paintings of Paula Rego.

This is an interesting eclectic mix of modern, 19th century and older art and artefacts. It is arranged over three floors with a decent shop and café. The garden is also worth a visit if the weather permits.

This museum is interesting in that it gives you a bit of a background for looking at Portuguese art. We did it and followed up with the art district - which was a great contrast. And the walk there revealed some interesting neighborhoods. Definitely go if you have the time - but don't expect a world class museum - just... More

We only got to one floor as we'd walked enough already that day. The art was well shown but without much context, not helped as the English brochures had run out.

One of the best collections that show the most famous portuguese painters of the 19th and 20th century, as well as sculpture and fine china. All in a nice elegant building of the 18th century which used to be a palace with nicely decorated walls.

This museum has fine art, but I came here for the decorative arts, of which there is wonderful collection. There's French, English, and Portuguese furniture of the 17th to 19th centuries, as well as Oriental and Portuguese ceramic ware. The gift shop has high quality reproductions for sale. Highly recommended if you're a fan of the decorative arts.
