About
This traditional open-air market first opened its doors in 1837, and remains a historic icon and heart of the city of Porto. The restored and stylish Beaux-art style building houses around 80 traditional stalls and family-run businesses over three floors, selling a variety of fresh produce, fish, meat, and wine, alongside newer coffee shops and restaurants. Beyond food, you can also shop for unique souvenirs like perfume and jewelry from a range of local brands. There are even vendors offering services like knife sharpening. Visit the market along a tapas or walking tour of Porto to learn more about Portuguese street food and culture. – Tripadvisor

    Our pit stop for essentials
Bolhão Market became the place to grab fresh fruit, cheeses, olives etc to have on hand in our rented apartment. A little pricey but convenient to have everything in one place. There are tables to enjoy a glass of port or wine with prepared sandwiches or pastry. And I’m not going to lie, clean restrooms were a big draw in a city with very limited access to public toilets.

    Super clean friendly market.
We walked here from across the river. Beautifully clean market with stalls selling fruit, cheese, hams, wine, pinchos, flowers. You can buy a plate of cheese and wine by the glass and just sit and watch the world go buy. Cheese plater €10 and a glass of wine €2. We loved it.

    Mercado supreme
Wow...this place is not to be missed! It has everything from fresh meats and fish, to breads and pastries, to cheeses, candy, tea, and the most amazing fruits and veggies. Plus wines, beers, coffee, and more. They even have some prepared foods. My suggestion is to arrive hungry, leisurely stroll through the mercado buying tastes of foods that appeal to you, munching as you go. I don't see how you could be disappointed. The hours are more like a mercado than a restaurant, so plan accordingly. The only difficulty might be finding a place to sit and enjoy your goodies.

    Quaint market
Fresh, clean, vibrant, well laid out market. Located next to the metro station of the same name, it is best to walk up and down each aisle to see the wares, lots of fresh fruit and cheese. There is a tapas bar and on the other side a bar that sells wine by the glass.

    Outstanding market, with great food
My apartment was a block away from this market. I visited multiple times, each time sampled different food. The best value was €6 for ten large shrimps. I'm a shrimp lover, and these were among the best I ever had. Fresh (shell peeled off easily), briny yet sweet, and has a bit of crunch. No dipping sauce needed. I returned for a second order.

One of the best outdoor markets I've seen.
I've been to a lot of markets in my travels, and this is one of the best. The myriad and varied fruit and vegetables are incredibly fresh and tasty. There you can indulge in fresh oysters, prawns, calamari, fish, all kept cold and hygienic by being sprayed with water every now and again. There are also amazing meats, breads, pastries, sweets, beers, wines, coffee........ Basically, anything anyone could wish for to have as a meal. The one drawback is that there are not nearly enough tables and chairs, so you will find people standing like hawks watching for people to get up from a table so they can grab their places. It is also one of the cleanest markets I have seen with isles wide enough so that you do not have to keep on bumping into people who are standing at stalls or trying to push others out of the way as you are navigating your way to the differing stalls. The prices, whilst not cheap, are reasonable.

Well worth a visit to stock up on picnic goodies
I loved this market. We were staying nearby and it became our go to for reasonably priced provisions. There's fresh fruit salad, smoothies, freshly made sandwiches to take away, a myriad of dried fruit and nuts - basically everything you need under one roof to create a delicious and cheap meal. Colourful, friendly, clean and bustling.

    good
Good. It basically turned into a touristic place, but it is still a good choice to have a fast lunch. Prices changed from the past accordingly, but it is still a good choice (price/quality) for a fast lunch when there

    Great Stuff
Excellent place for a break. Plenty to see and do. You have stalls selling a bit of everything. There are tables and seats at one end, so split up get some cheese, some cold cuts, seafood and wine and have a nice lunch watching people go around. everyone seems to speak English and prices are actually kind of normal.

    Must visit in Porto
Great place to spend an hour, browse for all kinds of market foods - cheese, fruit, olives, bread. Snack on pastries ( love the chicken, duck or meat pies) pick up a coffee and take in the vibe. Good value for money.

Nice place to do some tastings. Some food is good, other not so much. We had a delicious salmon, tuna was not good. Cheese and canapes were mid range, pasta with truffles was not good.

The #Bolhão #Market, located in the city of Porto, #Portugal, is quite similar to #markets in other countries. But at least there, you're not deceived. Everything has its price, you just have to pay. Also, they don't keep offering you things to try and then pressure you into buying. If you try something, you can buy it if you want. But there aren't too many people trying things either. People there go straight to the point, buy, and consume on the spot. It's very enjoyable, and the things they sell there are of top quality. #FYP #TikTok #viral #foryou #fun #dance #challenge #music #comedy #trending #review #restaurantes #vida #hotel #ondecomer #travel #trip #europe

I tried quite a few different stalls. Seafood generally good but overpriced in comparison to other locations (especially as seating is sparse). Had some not very fresh sandwhiches as well. Overall, too expensive for what it is, and catering at tourists. Clean and nice looking though!

Walked through quickly on our way back to our hotel; definitely worth checking out to see all the fresh produce, seafood, and meat. Stopped and got a sandwich for a good price.

There are countless stalls selling their wares from cheese, fruits, vegetables, olive oil and so on. It is well worth visiting and making some purchases. Just be mindful that it does get very busy though.

This is a fantastic market to buy fresh produce and also sample delicious foods from either the stalls down below or the sit down restaurants on the upper floor. Such a friendly vibe and great value for money. Highly recommend anyone stop here during their trip to Porto.

Porto’s central market is a must-visit when touring the city. One can happily meander through the stalls for 1-2 hours and peruse row after row of delicacies for both stomach and home. Hungry? Sample small plates of sardines, urchin, tuna tartare, cheese, pasta, charcuterie or fresh oysters etc. There are loads of options and to wash all that food down, you can sip lovely Douro wines. Looking for fresh cut flowers, plants, tableware or linens - you can find those in abundance too. The market is clean, well lit and sensibly laid out w plenty of washrooms at your disposal. After visiting this place you’ll leave w a lighter wallet but much happier.
