    Great atmosphere. Lovely riverside bars.
Wandered down here for a couple of afternoons, great atmosphere, bars, restaurants, buskers, cafes, shops, boat rides along the river, it's all going on here. Sat for coffee and beer in a couple of the bars, prices are cheap and service was good. Great views over the river.

    Well worth a visit
This boardwalk alongside the Douro river was a very short walk from where we were staying and we visited every day of our short stay. Lined with cafes, bars and restaurants, there is lots of space for a sit down and a relax while watching the life of Porto. Buskers make the experience more enjoyable too!

    Superb historic center of Porto
Superb Ribeira district, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Colorful houses and steep streets to admire from the quays, the Douro or Vila Nova de Gaia. Enjoy the views and the atmosphere on the quays and wander the narrow streets to discover the very authentic historic center of Porto. Choose small family restaurants typical of small streets rather than tourist restaurants on the quays!

It's full of life all day long.
The waterfront of the historic part of the city is much more crowded than Cais de Gaia on the other side of the river. It is one of the most visited places in Porto. Numerous gardens of cafes and restaurants, souvenir stalls on the shore and the specific architecture of the waterfront tenement houses attract not only tourists. It is crowded but at the same time safe. The most crowded square is the historic Praca da Ribeira square with its fountains and eateries. Just be patient and everything around you will become more pleasant. If you have a little more time, it is worth sitting in one of the numerous gardens with a glass of wine or another drink and feeling the unique atmosphere here.

Top notch for watching the city
Absolutely a place you should not miss if you are visiting Porto. Full of tourist traps, well yes, but that you can choose to avoid. Have a seat at a cafe, get a glass of wine and enjoy the show. Loads of people walking along the river and plenty of boats passing by. You will have a lot to watch - and the view of the city is stunning.

    Streets of old Porto
This is exactly how we imagine Porto - streets leading down to the embankment, colorful houses that have seen better days, laundry drying, tourists idly walking, small restaurants where the smell of fried fish smells and soul-stirring fado flows in the evening. Sadness about better times. Details that are interesting to look at. Boats departing from the embankment with tourists for a short walk under the Duoru bridges, the cries of seagulls, a serene blue sky, amazingly combined with terracotta roofs. Time has stopped here and flows slowly. Set aside at least half a day for a walk, drink a glass of wine on the promenade and old Porto will begin to whisper its secrets. The embankment on the opposite side of the Duoru in Villa Nova di Gaia is also good, but everything is a little more fun there - numerous port wine houses invite you to tastings. But the views from there on the embankment and rooftops of Porto are no less beautiful.

    Vibrant and Photogenic
Spent 5 days in Porto recently and the Ribeira was clearly one of the highlights. Despite being "off season" the place was mobbed with tourists despite the cold, damp and off and on rain. There are countless restaurants, bars, shops, street vendors as well as musicians to keep your attention but the riverside location, colorful buildings and non stop boat traffic is also a big draw! No trip to Porto is complete without a few hours on the Ribeira!

    Nice walk along the Douro
Over the Douro and in front of Vila Nova da Gaia you can take this coastal walk. Very picturesque and with a lot of musical and artistic activity. The cruises that travel across the six bridges depart from this area. It is an excellent place for lunch or dinner

    Porto at its finest
One of the most photographed and popular places in Porto. I feel at home when there, sitting on the dock and just watching people go by, listening to street musicians or simply gazing at the river. Let yourself explore the narrow streets of Ribeira, enjoy the view of the Dom Luis bridge, and immerse your senses in the mixture of languages and faces. Eat your nata there, but watch out for the seagulls :)

Cross the Don Lewis I Bridge.
It's a district with a lot of waineries. The first time I walked across under the Don Luis I Bridge. The riverbank was lined with stalls selling handmade goods and souvenirs. There are many restaurants and cafes. The second time we walked across the bridge, so we used a ropeway to get to the riverbank road.

It's very nice and lively, we stayed one weekday and there was a summer weekend animation of our own. Street musicians on every street corner, playing music with unusual virtuosity. There are also flea market stalls, where you can find the souvenirs at a better price than in the rest of the city. I recommend crossing the bridge Luis I and the side of Vila nova de Gaia, go to the house of the cod cake with sheep cheese, where for 10,00 euros you can enjoy the cake (very delicious) and a glass of port wine.

Walked onto the Luis Bridge ( lower level) to get onto this Cais da Ribeira . This is definitely a touristy area but exciting at the same time time with the shops , live street performances, bustling river waterfront and many eateries + fancy restaurants. It’s a great place to sit and enjoy the Douro river views , the bridges view and sunset as you sip on some wine.

I don't think I can add anything that is unusal or different to the thousands of reviews already written. Its a beautiful location in beautiful Porto. with spectacular views of the Dom Luis 1 bridge, the river Douro and views of the Gaia Quay which is also well worth a visit across the bridge its a perfect tourist magnet!!. huge choice of bars/ restaurants ok you pay for the location but just step back from the front and the small streets behind have hidden gems of bars offering amazing "Menu del dia" deals from Euro10 brilliant value!!.Excellent street performers help you enjoy your time here. If you are staying up the hill from this area and need an easy option of getting there take the Funicular Euro 4 located just under the bridge or walm over the footbridge to Gaia Quay and take the cable car Euro7 to the top of the bridge, either option is brilliant value and part of your trip to this lovely city!.

All the visitors come here to enjoy a cold drink, to sit outdoors, to view the river Douro, and to watch whatever the buskers are doing. It is very touristy, locals avoid the area. But on a sunny day, it can be great fun and picturesque.

I love this place and every time I go back there, I feel such a wonderful feeling. It's beautiful, people from all over the world, the river that crosses it with unique landscapes, without explanation
One of my favorite places, ever! Fabulous and unforgettable.

Cais da Ribeira is the quayside area running along the banks of Douro River and is part of Porto's historic heart designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Beyond its touristy first impression, this bustling commercial area is still worth a stroll as you head from Praca de Ribeira to the Dom Luis I Bridge and the Funicular dos Guindas. Even if the crowd and buzz does not excite you, there is still much to appreciate in this area, in particular the beautiful River Douro and the pastel-colored buildings along its banks. So, take in the sights and bask in Porto's timeless charm as you relive the bygone medieval era when this place was once a busy harbor and the city's economic engine.

It is a bubbly city, full of life and lots of people.
My experience was average because we booked in the historic center and it was a fiasco! In August the heat is unbearable and the city has very important ups and downs when walking through it, it is tremendous to do it in summer!!! I do not recommend it. Maybe in the middle seasons it is more enjoyable. We missed a lot to see!

Everything in Porto is very close. The Cais is near the Stock Exchange Palace. From the Church of San Francisco, from virtually all the main tourist attractions of the city. There's a fair there during the day. There's musicians playing, bars and restaurants inflated in the area. After all, it's a compulsory stop. From there you have access to the lower part of the D.Luis Bridge.

From here you had access to the infamous Ponte das Barcas, where in the year 1809 more than 4 thousand people died during an attack by French troops. Today, a bronze bas-relief attests to this moment.
At the Pier it is possible to observe the existence of a door called Postigo do Carvão. Of the 18 doors or shutters in the Fernandina Wall built in the 14th century, this is the only one that has remained to this day.
This riverside is surrounded by cafes and shops make this one of the main tourist areas in the city. Nice to stroll when you have shiny weather, but even on a rainy day there are allot of people walking arround.

Ribeira district is the riverfront of old town Porto which is right behind it in a maze of old narrow winding streets.
Ribeira is very popular with both, locals and tourists with many bars, restaurants, street performers,...etc. Walking it will reward you with great views of Douro and the iconic Dom Luis bridge. However, have in mind it's a high tourist area, so you can guess prices in establishments around are higher with lower service quality.
TIP: Great views of Ribeira district are from Vila Nova de Gaia right across or from the upper level of Dom Luis bridge.
