Very easy to walk past and miss.
We were staying in a nearby hotel and someone recommended this park to us. It is not clearly sign posted so we walked straight past at first. You enter through a pair of iron gates. We were greeted by a person who invited us to see the indoor art exhibition, this was very enjoyable and quite moving as the subject was about human emotion and expression on our face. The park itself is beautifully planted with lots of exotic trees (labelled). There are lots of small pathways you can wander along and enjoy looking at many colourful flowers, even a rose garden. There is also 2 aviaries containing parrots and budgies. There are 2 toilet blocks, very modern and clean. Also a smart restaurant.

Nice gardens but let down by the cafe.
Very nice garden to visit if staying nearby. Lots of nice plants and interesting, winding paths. We stopped for a drink at the cafe in the centre of the park and service was very poor. We were queuing up but the staff seemed to choose to ignore us and serve the local people first. Also it was very smoky which wasn't pleasant on a nice sunny day.

Most enjoyable walking around the gardens!
Lovely gardens with a trail through a ravine. Exotic flowers abound and several picnic spots can be found. It is now a sports club with several tennis courts. Pleasant setting for a bar which serves nice coffee. We enjoyed the walking trail although it was very short.

Not worth a special trip and difficult to find entrance. It is more of a municipal park with sports facilities. It does have a café if you are around the area.

Absolutely wonderful place to visit… until you see the poor rabbits right at the back of the gardens. The cages are small and with nothing to interest the poor, obviously depressed and neglected rabbits. We saw a father take his child to look at them, but they did nothing because there was nothing for them to do, so the child had no interest and walked away. How anywhere in this day and age can give animals such a miserable life is beyond me! Don’t go if you don’t like animal cruelty.

Beautiful gardens, lots of old trees and colourful flowers. Just at the back of Magnolia Gardens hotel. Free to enter, reasonably priced cafes to sit and rest a while.

This park is situated behind the hotel, Enotel Magnolia. There is a restaurant and gallery and also a cafe/bar near the tennis courts. We ate several times at the cafe and the food and drinks were very good value and the service was excellent. There are several paths leading down the hill to the river to explore and cages with rabbits and parakeets (which could be improved we think) and also a small pond with goldfish. Some wild birds, lizards and butterflies to see too.
There are lots of different plants and trees and it was entertaining to watch the tennis matches. The park is free to enter and is a perfect place to sit in the sun with a drink and relax

Found this garden by accident - what a hidden gem. Some of the specimens are over 100 years old. We spent a few hours here watching the paddle ball players, wandering around the beautifully kept gardens, ponds and aviaries and having a snack at one of the 2 cafés. It's free admission and there is even an art gallery there too!

Beautiful garden just up the road from Reid’s. It was apparently derelict until recently. It did have the most amazing collection of enormous trees so it felt a little like the lost gardens of heligan in the UK. Somewhere magical, now restored.

The garden is free, with tennis courts etc. when we visited the local children were out playing football and enjoying the grounds. Lovely.

We noticed lots of very large cycads, one was possibly the biggest specimen I’ve seen. Absolutely majestic. There were many large palms a stunning Chamaerops humilis, an extremely large stand of strelizia nobilis, lots of flowering gingers and a shady walk along a ravine.

This garden is a hidden gem in Funchal just behind the Enotel Magnolia Hotel. The gardens are beautifully laid out with some wonderful plants. It is delightful spending time wandering around here. There are also excellent sports facilities within the grounds. There is a snack bar and a restaurant within the grounds. We sat at the outside tables of the restaurant and it was so tranquil. If you live gardens this is a must.
