A small but interesting military museum inside the barracks and other governmental offices. For eu 2.00 p/p you get an insight in the military history of Madeira. It takes appr. half an hour and the layout is well done.

Thought it was free but even though over 65s get in for €1.50 I felt it didn't live up to my expectations. A few guns, paintings of soldiers on the walls and although there are laminated pages in various languages, it didn't really tell us...More

Only €1.50 for crinklies and kids! It is very informative and definitely multililnigual. It certainly gave me an insight to the military history of the island. I managed to combine it with a visit to the palace next door. This is free and VERY well...More

Well worth the €2 admission. There are 3 rooms with interesting military memorabilia. Translation notes available in English in relation to the main artefacts. Videos also worth watching.

Came across this by chance today. €1.50 to get in. No photography inside. Good display of military artefacs from 1000 years ago. English subtitles alongside the displays. TV employed for telling military history of battles throughout the years right up to 2009 and the Portuguese...More

Museum was interesting but there were things with no translation into English. The Video which went on for about 25 mins. was all in Portuguese. Pity because they had put a lot into a very small space. The price was just about right. It was...More

Whilst wandering around Funchal I spied this old fort with a field gun outside and when I went over for a closer look realised it was a museum. While it is very small, three rooms, it gives a good insight into the history of Madria...More

The outside of this museum is really cool with cannons on the corners and stands strong in the middle of the town. Inside the museum is 3 rooms with a few guns and swords and military uniforms. There are leaflets to read the signs in...More
