The gardens themselves are in a poor state and clearly in need of some serious TLC. However the access via the cable car is qutie something (not for those who suffer from vertigo!) and the setting on the cliff above a ravine overlooking Funchal is...More

Could spend most of the day here and need a minimum of a few hours. Range of plants and flowers. Need to explore to see everything. Was being renovated in places so couldnt see everything. I got a combined entrance and cable car ticket and...More

Lovely gardens which are well cared for by dedicated staff. We enjoyed the cable car ride and visit to the church situated high up the mountain. Pity that the £31.50 fee did not include admission to the tropical garden which would have cost an additional...More

Great variety of flora and fauna. Very relaxing place with lots of areas to sit and chill out. Very much recommended as an activity.

Not as good as we had anticipated. Should have saved money and gone to the Tropical Gardens instead. The extra cable car ride to the Botanical Gardens and the gardens not as we had expected

The cable caar will drop you right by the entrance to the gardens. Looked after by just 10 gardeners, this is not for the faint hearted. Numerous steps and slopes mean that this is an excersise, but, every turn shows a new vista or plant...More

Bigger than I first thought and although overshadowed by the Tropical Gardens, they are definitely worth a visit. Cable car a bit interesting but worth getting an all round ticket which includes both cable cars and entrance to the gardens.

Unfortunately there is a charge for the gardens but it is worth it, vast array of beautiful plants in fantastic setting.

Beautifully well laid out gardens, kept in immaculate condition, with differing flowering species, depending on what time in the year one visits. Quite a lot of walking, but well worthwhile, with some superb views overlooking the sea.

We had a great visit to the gardens which are highly varied - from palms to topiary to camellias to cactus. The gardens are very well maintained. Some of the paths are steep but it’s possible to get around without using them, again some are...More

A limited amount of on street parking. We got the bus up there which cost €1.95 each and we shared a taxi back down with another couple which cost us €2 each. Easier than driving up as well.
