Judging by the previous reviews people either love or dislike these gardens. We thought they were great and enjoyed discovering the various sections on our leisurely meander down the hill stopping at the well located cafe half way down. The service and selection of sandwiches...More

We were a bit disappointed in the gardens - and we love a botanical garden when we are away. It could be that there had been a recent fire, or it could have been the time of year we went - but we didn't see...More

Great experience arriving by 2 cable cars from Funchal. Gardens are beautiful with fantastic views across Funchal & the Atlantic, worth a visit. Not very easy to walk around with very steep paths & lots of steps. Had an enjoyable few hours.

Plus of course you can get there and back by cable car although noting it's two separate legs and not cheap but you can do as part of a trip up to the town further inland (forgot the name!)
