This is no cathedral, but simply beautiful with its wood ceilings and ivory carvings all dating from the early 1500s. Note the well-worn inlaid wood seats, too.

We sat at the back during a service and the music and service were beautiful. We have visited on a previous day to have a better look round and take photos

Nothing special, tranquil and easy to pop into as at the centre of a square in the city. Plain inside and some unusual seating.

this is a heavily ornate typical cathedral. Part of the scenery and the culture and so worth a visit, even if a breif one.

Don't miss this place if you're interested in architecture! From the outside the cathedral seems to be boring. You'll be astonished by the inside. Especially the ceiling and the choir are impressive.

Not on a scale of some that I have seen, but this is a charming cathedral with plenty of wonderful décor to admire.

Check the visiting times, they are in guides - but can vary slightly. Another must see the inside building of the catholic church in Madeira. The grandness exceeds what can be written. The plain outside is like a cocoon of painting, guiding and carving. One of the things to do on your bucket list in Funchal.

Not a sleepy place as you would find in the UK, many services taking place on a daily basis and a lot of people usually sight seeing.
