Promenade starts near the Lido and continues along past hotels, cafes and marine biology station. Although it’s looking a bit past it’s prime and the path is not always obvious, green areas are well maintained and it’s a pleasant (but not all flat!) walk. Nice overlooks across small coves and rocky beaches. Probably better in the evening rather than heat of the day when I took a stroll!!…

Also known as Passeio Publico Maritimo. From the Funchal end it starts at Passeio Publico do Lido where there is a car park at Rua do Gorgulho. Tunnels closed at the time of writing from Pestana Grand hotel. Walk up Rua do Cabrestanta to the main road Estrada Monumental. Go past the Pestana Royal and there is a steep footpath with steps called Travessa da Praia Formosa which leads down to Rua da Pra which rejoins the coast path via the car park between the two derelict sites. From there there are several cafes and a good walk all the way to Camara de Lobos village where the path ends. To start at the Camara de Lobos end get a taxi there or the 01 bus from Funchal which terminates just before the cement works. Walk down to the roundabout then left across the bridge and the path with its footbridge is on the left by the sea. The path goes north into Camara de Lobos or south towards Funchal. It is a short walk downhill and steps to the village where there are shops and cafes. Also taxis. Walking towards Funchal go past the cafes and turn up the road via the car park, turn right at the T junction and towards the Pestana Royal. Turn left up steps just past a small coutage on the left. At the top turn right and pick up the path again at Pestana Grand or the Magic Tea House gardens next to the Baia Azul hotel. If in doubt do ask as there are many English speakers eager to help. Bus costs 2 euros each way and taxi 8 euros between Funchal and the naval club.…

We join outside the Promenade hotel and saunter all the way to Camaro de Lopes and back. Short cut tunnel still closed but a steep descent and ascent in one area at start is all need to be aware of. Plenty of cafes and restaurants for sustenance en route. Also great views of crashing waves. Well worth it…

It is a lovely walk from one end to the other but there are some steeply undulating sections. What goes down....... We had hoped to traverse the atmospheric tunnel to walk the beach but unfortunately it was closed and we did not see the small sign at the top of the steps down. Nonetheless it is a lovely promenade.…

the promenade from the lido below the Vila Porto Mar extends along to the sea pools Poca Do Gomes, the majority of the walk is flat until you get to the section where you have to go left down to the lido (see photo) and once past lido it is a very steep paved path up to the promenade which then goes down to above the restaurant above the sea water pools and onward down to the beach for a good break on the walk stop at the Magic Tea Gardens for coffee and cake it is about half way next to the very large and stand out building of the Magic centre…
