In the 💓 of Funchal hundreds of vintage cameras, binoculars, telescopes, all from private collection... a must-visit for everyone interested in photography and film. The exhibition area is spread over two floors, and a coffee/foyer/small antique shop. Upstairs you get to watch a melange of private video clips depicting Madeira from '50s onwards. Just brill! I only wish the ever-growing collection gets all support from local authorities as it is obvious the museum is in need of constant maintenance and expansion! Madeira should be proud to have such a gem of the place! It's places like this museum that make all the difference for a tourist hungry for cultural food!…

If you’re interested in photography this collection is well worth a visit, especially if you started in the days of film based photography. Perusal of the well presented and informative collection is like taking a walk down memory lane for the older photographer and will be fascinating for the younger generation too. There are also other examples of optical equipment, for example binoculars and telescopes. Some items are for sale too. Highly recommended.…

Have been going to Madeira for over 10 years and have visited most if not all the museums. This museum is terrific value at €5. The owner was most friendly, helpful and informative. The exhibits were extensive and well curated. For me,the camera exhibition was a trip down memory lane. Apart from that there was an impressive collection of telescopes, microscopes, binoculars and other optical apparatus. Highly recommended!…

This museum is well worth a visit. It has a large display of cameras, film projectors, telescopes and all things optical. My husband had a great time rediscovering equipment he used to work with. Upstairs they have films running showing some of the history of Maderia which is well worth a watch. The owner was really helpful. Looking up information for us on the old funicular railway, it's running and demise. Do visit this one.it is worth seeking out…
