Started at the parking of Achado do Teixeira, the walk is quiet easy for average walkers. The sights are amazing so take some breaks and wander about the nature. Next time I'm on the island. I will walk from there over the Pico Ruivo to...More

We parked the hire car in the car park at Achadas do Teixeira and took the man made trail up to the summit of the mountain. Took around 50mins with a couple of brief stops along the way. Not too challenging really, thought it would...More

The best way to get to Pico Ruivo is from Pico Arieiro. Please notice that you will need water, something to eat and obligatory clothing appropriate for such a hike.

Having walked from Pico Ariero, it was a relief to finally arrive at Ruivo. The last bit from the bothy at the bottom is longer than you think but, once you are up there, the views are stunning. The volcanic centre of the island in...More

Great and fairly easy walk on 2.7 km mostly paved pathway up to the highest point on Madeira. What a view you get when you reach the top at 1861 m. That's a fantastic reward worth the effort ! On an ideal day you'll be...More

Think your best best is a taxi to Pico Arieiro and then hike to Ruivo.
