    Loved Historic Sintra
After you visit the Palace spend an hour or two in Historic Sintra. Pastry shops abound so be sure to try some of these delicious local specialties. There is a "bakery row" with many shops to choose from.

    Lovely Place to Wander
After my visit to the palace. I wandered the streets of the town, enjoying the ambiance and the narrow alleys. I wish I could have sampled the restaurants and bars an the very warm day, but I did get the flavour of the town. Very pleasant stay.

    A Nice Walk
Our guide left us off to explore the town. It was a nice stroll, not too many things of interest for us, but a nice town. Some of the narrow streets were so steep we couldn't even go down them. We walked around till our guide picked us up.

    Enchanting historic town
We took the train to Sintra as our hotel was on the main Oriente train line so it only took 35 minutes. It's a pleasant 20 minute walk from Sintra train station to the historic centre. The centre is busy even in January but it's easy to stroll around and get some great photo opportunities. Obviously it's a bit hilly if you decide to walk to the palaces from the town and some are 1 hour walk. We didn't have time but still enjoyed our time in the town.

Amazing view and beautiful castle. Apparent lack of English speaking guides difficult. Bus ticket and train tickets can be used what you have for Lisbon, but I was not aware I had to spend there separately.
- No money exchange place, only cash withdrawal machines. Which is charging 4.99 Euro for a transaction.
- Centre is different location to the main Bus and Train stop.
13.50 bus ticket routes are silly waste of money. I believe the card I had 1 day pass could have been used, but they wanted me to buy one ticket. Which is not worth it.. they just drive pass these 6 points. both busses almost goes on the same route.
- May be hop on hop off red bus could have been different.
- Walking is too tiring mountain :)
but it's pretty site and climate is very colder than other town as it is a mountain.

Don’t waste your time and money on this tourist trap. To crowded. The infrastructure cannot cope with this kind of mass tourism (low season!) both in public transport as in Pena castle. Despite of timeslots one has to queue up for over an hour. Once inside, the same queue continues throughout the whole castle. And its really not breathtaking. Tried to get to another castle, however to little space in the small bus (435) after waiting for more than half an hour. Left thes place early, completely disilliusioned.

It is not unusal to observe many tourists in such marvelous places, but in the case of Sintra the whole centre looks like a huge market of cheap souvenirs. Maybe thas is why I enjoyed the narrow streets the most in the evening when all those stalls were closed.

When visiting Lisbon, set aside enough time to visit Sintra. A beautiful location with much to see, Quinta da Regaleira, Pena Palace, the town of Sintra. Bear in mind, it will likely be crowded, and it seems when you walk around the town everything is uphill, that is if you are a fine physical specimen such as myself.

The Historic Centre is a small but quaint area around 15 minutes walk from the Sintra Railway Station. A brief walk along the Volta du Duche and you enter the Historic Centre where you will find charming hotels, restaurants, bakeries, bars, places to try Ginginha, Port, pasteis de bacalhau, pateis de nata and other fun local and Portuguese foods.

There are also interesting gift and souvenir shops along with a few monuments, street side decorative fountains, a helpful Tourist Information Centre, old churches as well as major attractions such as the National Palace in the middle of the Historic Centre and Quinta da Regaleira palace and park a short walk west.

If you are staying some number of nights in Sintra, you will definitely want to make time for the Historic Centre for a bit of shopping and a meal or two. If you are simply making a daytrip over from Lisbon, it is still worth including some time on the day to spend here as well.
