Super fun and affordable tram ride. This one takes you to a village close by where the famous Sintra treat was born: the golden walnut. This sweet treat is an egg cream dipped in caramelized sugar and topped with a walnut.

Not running anymore, don’t waste your time (as I did) looking for it.
Maybe it’ll start up again one day.

We stayed a short while in Colares snd were intrigued to see the tram line crossing the road at various points. As the schedule is not well advertised we unfortunately didn't have a chance to ride the tram from the beach up to Sintra, but on driving up came across it at various points.
The tram is similar to the wonders in Lisbon and the track a magnificent piece of engineering. Next time we will make the effort to have the ride!

There is a reason why newer teams are replacing old trams. A high level of noise pollution is generated by trams like this.

We managed to get on the tram on our second attempt. It is VERY loud and screechy the whole way, too loud to hold a conversation. Glad we did it but we were also glad to get the 441 bus back from praia da masca

For those who do not mind tight spaces, sounds of screeching metal and who are not prone to motion sickness. With the increasing size of tourists, it is also not practical to try to squeeze four passengers in every row.

In the two weeks that I was in Sinatra, we tried to go on the tram, however it was always full. After four attempts, we finally gave up. It was a shame because it seemed a very, very wonderful thing to do. Again, I would highly recommend it if you can actually get onto the tram itself.

While in Sintra you must take the 45 min. tram ride out to the seaside. This single tram car bumps and screeches along the twisty and sometimes narrow track whilst the 'conductor' spins the brake wheel back and forth while stomping on the whistle. Great fun and very affordable at 3 euros each!! Enjoy

This is the only way to do Sintra. Fast, cheap, easy! Trains all day so super convenient. Bring a snack or drink, nothing on the train. Do not use the Bus tours when you get there. You WILL be left stranded if you attempt to get off the bus. They do not have enough busses and you can not stand.

This tram gets very busy and early queuing advised, especially for the first tram to the beach. You can take the bus (441) one way to beat the queues (look at the Scotturb website) The tram's 2019 timetable and fares are shown on the city tourist website. The adult fare is EUR 3 and on weekends you pay the conductor.

Hi, Does the Sintra Tram run during March?
Silvia R
Bristol, UK26 contributions
Found the website. It says it will run Friday to Sunday 3 times a day in 2020, depending on weather and number of passengers so if you inquiry at the ticket office/museum you may be lucky plus off season tickets are cheaper, apparently...
Boa noite!

Agradecida

Cara 610zeni,
Sua pergunta sugere duas respostas:
1. Estando em Lisboa vc poderá ir a Sintra de trem (aqui chamado de comboio) que sai da estação do Rossio de meia em meia hora desde cedo até cerca de 23 hs - todos podem indicar esta estação ferroviária que é super conhecida;
2. Estando em Sintra e querendo andar no Sintra Trem aconselho a olhar o site da Câmara Municipal de Sintra e verificar os horários.
Agora dois conselhos:
1. São pelo menos 5 atrações em Sintra - portanto vá bem cedo e volte tarde e prepare-se com vestimentas, sapatos e lanches;

We will visit Sintra May 1st 2018 ,would like to confirm is this old tram operate on this day as it is a national holiday. Thank you

The tram usually runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (even in the winter) so as May 1st is a Tuesday I'm afraid it probably isn't running - sorry!
But as it's a public holiday there may be a special service - I have seen the tram running on some odd days - you catch it in the new part of Sintra and it costs 3€, the website isn't very informative and Sintra tourist office a bit useless (cm-sintra.port). There is also an email address on the timetable: dtur.vila.alda@cm-sintra.pt

Does the Sintra tram run during the month of May?
JaninedeBric
Denver, CO517 contributions
Yes, we live in Praia das Maçãs (the terminus of the tram), and confirm that it runs year round. During May, service is mostly regular (about every two hours, nearly every day) and during the winter months, it slows down considerably, with service limited to weekends in the height of winter. If you need info on a particular day, you can check the website for the Câmara; search on "Sintra Electrico" (this shows the summer schedule; it will update after September 24).
