The Moorish Castle is a military fortification that bears witness to the Islamic presence in the region, and was probably constructed between the eighth and ninth centuries and later expanded after the Reconquista. Overlooking the town of Sintra, it served as a watchtower, guaranteeing the protection of Lisbon and its surroundings.

Stunning views and great historic facts around the walls and underground. Not too crowded between 10-11 am after that the big busses start rolling in and you won't get a clear picture without any Japanese tourist groups.

Castelo dos Mouros is located in the top of “Serra de Sintra” near to Palácio da Pena and has amazing view nice view of sintra. It is possible to combine the visit with Palacio da Pena and the ticked is cheaper, It worth the value. The two visits combined can be done in one morning. To go to the top... More

A long walk to the top but the scenery on the way and the amazing view of the palace made up for it. Felt like we were in the Game Of Thrones.

Make sure to get up here early to avoid bus queues from Sintra and so you can enjoy the place peacefully. Take your time wandering around the walls and soaking up the mesmerising views in all directions. There are plenty of interesting information panels dotted around the site with historical details of each location.

The castle was truly memorable. The views are gob smacking The day we visited the wispy clouds off the Atlantic were blowing over and at time we were literally in the clouds. It would test some peoples liking of heights.but an outstanding monument to the past.

You need to be fairly agile for this castle as it is steep and quite large. Probably the most dramatic castle I have visited. If you dont like hights probably not for you as the castle ramparts are high and narrow and when it is blustery a little nervey. Well worth a visit.

Located in Sintra. bus 434 will take you there from the train station or from Sintra center. If you are into castles and the walls and the keep, this is the place you have to be. The living quarters are non-existent. But walking on the castle walls and climbing up to the top will not only get you a great... More

We walked up from the train station in Sintra, it is a good hike up and takes roughly 45 mins so appropriate footwear is recommended! You can get a tuk-tuk or tourist bus up of you wish. When we got up we really enjoyed the grounds and the exceptionally beautiful views of sintra from the castle walls. It's a definite... More

This is a castle from my childhood with amazing views over Sintra. Flags flying and a Great Wall with vistas like a mini wall of China. A bit of a strenuous walk but nothing too difficult - just take it steady. A must.

Castle of Moorse is great! If you like a hike walk up there. The walk is nice and the view spectacular! A tuc tuc is just as expensive as the bus by the way. The castle itself makes you feel like in game of thrones it is older and nicer than the one in Lisbon!
