Great castle with well maintained town walls
The castle itself has been turned into an expensive hotel, but the town walls that extend from the castle encompass the entire village and are freely accessible. Note that the town walls and the stairs leading up to them have no guardrails. I have seen daring souls sitting on the edge of the buttress high above ground. It's not for those afraid of heights or not ready to cash in their life insurance. Whether on the town walls or at ground level, you can always find a spot with impressive views of the castle and the town walls.

    Super
This is the main event when you are in Obidos. Obidos is a hidden gem of Portugal. When you are in the town, you have to check the castle and if you can (at your own risk) walk around the walls of the castle. The view is amazing. Whatever happens in the town, it happens inside the walls of the castle.

    Beautiful piece of history
The entire old town of Obidos is sensational, the ancient streets, narrow laneways, great city walls, churches and the castle all add to the WOW factor of the medieval site. Don’t rush your visit and if possible visit mid week to avoid the long weekend tourists. If you are staying the night visiting the old town at 7.30am should give you an hour to enjoy the site and take your photos before the first tours arrive. The walk around the city walls was a highlight.

Stay in the Castle Hotel for the Full Experience!
We read beforehand that you had to stay in the castle hotel in order to enter. Glad we did, because it was really awesome. The town of obidos and the larger surrounding wall walk are great too, but you dont want to miss the castle itself.

    Magical Castle!
Visited in the Fall of 2022! I would have stayed more than one day. That’s all the time we had. The Castle was a magical place to experience! So many little artisan shops, good food and beautiful scenery! Outdoor musicians, artists and delightful preserves! A must!

Obidos Castle is spectacular and worth a visit. The inside is now a Pousado, so open to those staying there for the night.

Hard to miss when in Obidos! Walking the walls of the castle around Obidos was great (and a bit scary in places!)

The castle itself is pretty from the outside. It is a hotel so one cannot get a feel for what is must have been like previously. The castle/town walls are in great repair and one can walk around the entire town along the walls.

The idea of staying in a castle had great appeal. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the morning breakfast was very good. the room is very small and dated, with a small bed and "castle" window. The front staff told us the castle rooms don't have two beds, but yet we saw one as we were checking out. You can use the toilet and shave and brush your teeth at the same time. We had to park in a lot at the far end of the walled village and walk with our luggage along way up a path. Fortunately the staff helped us after we checked in. My suggestion is to pack lightly for that part of your stay. Obidos is charming, I just wish we had known what we were getting into before we booked.

The castle was a special treat for our 24th anniversary. Upon arrival we found out that the main parking area was closed so we had to carry our luggage up a steep hill. Fortunately, a gentleman came down to greet us and help with the luggage. He was lovely and very gracious.
The castle was beautiful, but unfortunately the room was very outdated. Do not except to have a five star experience at this castle. Additionally, the bathroom had several issues. It really smelled, the ceiling was peeling off and it appeared to have black mold. Because of my allergies, we had to limit our exposure in the room.
The breakfast was lovely and the staff was excellent.
While it was nice to stay in a castle, I would not come back again due to the condition of the rooms.
