Wonderful Medieval market with local cuisine. Must try queijadas (Portuguese tarts with different variations of flavours: carrot/Almond/milk)
Amazing food and entertainment.
Great event for kids and grown-ups.

A nice addition to the permanent attractions within the city walls, and we found some good value souvenirs to take home.

The city is already gorgeous and has a very interesting history. The market makes it even more amazing, with a great environment, many people in costums, great food and all kinds of attractions. Defenitely recomended!

A real fantasy world and absolutely a must do. An annual event in July and August. Well worth the money. Fantastically arranged event. Loads of shows included in entrance fee. Enough food stalls and entertainment. Going back to the medieval times. Wonderful for locals and tourists alike.

We visited but it was empty with the old style medieval buildings and open space, which is for when they have a medieval event. You can get access to the walls here to walk along and also to walk around the outside of the wall to admire the views on one side. It is nice to walk around when it is quiet and see the views.

A fun experience to go to Obidos during the Medieval Festival. Dressing up is made very easy as they have a loft full of costumes you can try on and return by midnight all for 5 Euros. Great for adults and kids. The festival has lots to offer but this year I felt it was a bit smaller than last year. They do it really well with no plastic (apart from water bottles) everything is wooden or ceramic and the food has a very authentic feel about it. The actors will interact with you if you are up for it, my son had a sword fighting lesson from a big knight. The castle is beautiful and makes a great setting for the festival. The whole town has market stalls for you to browse as well.

We made a special trip to Obidos during the festival based on the reviews but frankly it was a bit of a disappointment. Maybe we expected too much from a medieval festival that actually took place where medieval history was lived and made, but it was no better than some tacky festivals on similar themes we had seen outside of Europe. Much of the food looked like a certain ticket to indigestion, and it was virtually impossible to find water to drink or indeed anything but the ubiquitous Obidos ginger beer.
The "medieval music" band sounded like Hevia (not bad, just not medieval), and the jousting tournament was so choreographed it made the ones at the Medieval Times dinner shows look authentic. We exhausted everything to do there in two hours. Basically, the real village of Obidos was more interesting to explore. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

I have never been to Portugal during the fair before, that was a mistake I will correct. It was fantastic, the music, drinks, food the pageantry with all the locals dressed up and having a fantastic time! The jousting show was a special treat, very realistic and entertaining. The fair runs for nearly a month in July/August, make a point of visiting and staying overnight to enjoy being part of the celebration.
