This building of Portuguese Parliament is huge. We were passing it frequently as we rented holiday apartment nearby. During our stay was a public holiday - 25th April and the place in front of it was full of people shouting something which we didn't understand but they have seemed to be very happy. We saw also the guards. On the day of public holiday several streets around had barriers and public transport was redirected. In the front of the Parliament we saw a man who protested for several years. Next to it is public park which has several benches and trees and behind the building is apparently President's apartments with big garden.

We stopped by here at night to take some photos. This huge overwhelming Assembly building is floodlit at night and sparkles. It dominates the neighborhood on this hillside. Our cab rides took us past it several times and it always impressed.

This building is full of grandeur as befits its use
It was a former monastery. Best going when the guards change. Don't seem to have yours but well worth seeing.

This building is where the Portuguese Parliament meets and it also has office facilities nearby, including for the Prime Minister and President.

Set in the tremendous former Monastery of St. Benedict, it has a breathtaking profile when viewed to its full extent. Gleaming whiteness against the deep sky azure was a fabulous sight.

After the expulsion of monks and religious orders from the country, the Parliament moved in. Over time the building was renovated to suit its new role, giving us the magnificent edifice we admire today.

Neo-Classical in style, it comprises a grand portico and a pediment adored with beautifully carved figures exemplifying classical themes.

While this is a lovely building, there's very little to do in it, as tours were not available (again) during our visit.

Assembleia da Republica (or Palace of St. Benedict) is the Portugese Parliment building in the Barrio Alto district of Lisbon. It is a very impressive white marble building, dating back to about 1600, although the impressibe white steps were not added until the 1940s. It is one of the modern iconic buildings of Lisbon. The Castle tramcar tour, as well as various other trams pass by, but best visited on foot.

The Assembleia da república is an interesting, full of history place. It has beautiful paintings, a nice restaurant inside for the workers and an amazing room.

Assembleia da Republica is an impressive building in Bairro Alto area. Built in the classical Greek classical style with much fine white marble.
