Neighbourhood: Belém
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.

With little to no queues to get in, we visited the Cordoaria Nacional to view the Urban [R]evolution, an exhibit showcasing the short but intense story or street art through photos alongside several art installations by modern street artists. Sure, you'll find other activities with cheaper tickets throughout Lisbon, but this one is well worth the price as your perspective on urban art will change, even if ever so slightly, as you look at the art installations up close, even being able to touch a lot of them, all of them exploring a wide variety of social, cultural and personal topics.

Trying to get there? Recommend taking public transportation. Trains, trams and buses serve the close-by area, avoiding the headache of parking in the vicinity.

If you have a free afternoon, this will easily fill up that time.

Do not miss the Steve McCurry exhibit which is on at the moment. The photos are some of the best you’ll ever see, and the audio commentary brings to life the stories behind the photos.
It’s exceptional, and Steve is a master photographer and all around good human.
There is also a really good video interview with him.
Give yourself time, as you will want to stare at the photos for ages! I’d say at least 90 mins.

This is NOT open on Mondays, despite what google says.

Bring a phone which has data / internet. They do not have wifi for the audio commentary. If you get stuck with no internet, you could always bring up the audio commentary on your phone, and listen to it later when you get home.

We really liked the exhibition. Super interesting and well presented. Starting with a film which provided an overview of all the works - excellent job!

Visited foe the Pop Art Stars exhibition. Small but nicely laid out. Had well known works from Warhol, and Lichtenstein including the Marilyn Monroe screen print. Definitely worth a visit depending whats on.

Its near to the river and the Maat roof top which currently has Xavier Veilhan exhibition. So can combine with this and a nice walk along river.

Who knows... who care to know !

Useful for sure. Indispensable necessity. Street art has a say and must say.
Daring action art is still elusively permitted.

Let’s salute Lisbon’s initiative and geniusly secretive art know how !!

Although this exhibition is unofficial, it is clearly sympathetic to Banksy’s work and his ideas. There was much more here than I was expecting, and I enjoyed seeing so much of his work gathered in one place. His humour is great. A thought provoking and innovative collection. I recommend it!

Visited this exhibition with moderate expectations. I appreciate the light style of Banksy, very suitable for a street artist, and was not certain how this exhibition would deal with it. Would it keep it light or would it try to explain a bit the artist’s motivations and causes? I was glad since there was an effort to show the many perspectives of Banksy work. Even I, knowing Banksy reasonably well, learned quite a bit.
For someone appreciative of Banksy art, this visit is highly recommendable.
An additional note, I was with my 11 years old daughter, and she enjoyed it also. It is the demonstration how it is possible to make art and show it in an entertaining fashion.

This is an UNOFFICIAL exhibiton, nonetheless it is very comprehensive giving a good background to the artist and the implied meaning behind his work.

There is a 10 minute video of Banksy's work around the world then the exhibition is broken into themed rooms.

I'm kind of ambivalent about Banksy with his Anti-Establishment stance whilst making a fortune or somebody is from his work? Irregardless of this, the exhibition is worth seeing as it thoroughly covers his work even the theme park Dismaland and hotel in Palestine.

I like banksy but this exhibition was kind of week. As portuguese I don't like to see one or two posters writen is spanish. I also missed some light to see some of the texts near the posters. The movie at the begining, with fast slides, is not a good tribute to Banksy work. A too expensive exhibition.

The Cordoaria Nacional is a long building in between the Avenida da Índia and the Rua da Junqueira, close to the MAAT museum and the river. Some Portuguese people told me that they used to make ropes for the ships over there. That’s the reason why it’s such a long building.
They hold temporary exhibitions varying in quality. Now there’s a big unauthorised Banksy exhibition. Entry isn’t cheap(€ 13) but there are a lot of works etc on display. In the end it’s really worth the visit.
