- RschagrinDelray Beach, Florida15,896 contributionsBusy SquareThis busy beautiful square is a broad tree-lined section of the Avenida da Liberdade. It is adjacent to the Rossio train station. Restauradores means restorers and commemorates the 1640 uprising against the Spanish. It is surrounded by very nice restaurants and shops.Visited November 2022Written 9 December 2022
- Kendall K782 contributionsNice Central SquareWas able to see this nonalcoholic statue from the balcony of our Airbnb. The square that surrounds it is nicely surrounded with small souvenir shops, high end retail stores, restaurants and other hotels. There’s a pic of how the square used to look inside a popular custard shop for reference of the many changes this location has gone through. Nice thing is there are two train stations near by as well as bus transportation and is a easy pick up and drop off location for taxis and Ubers.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 December 2022

The train station is at south end of square. Many boutiques, cafes and restaurants surround it. Suggest breakfast at cafe and site see beautiful churches extremely close by, BUT we found it best to skip the restaurants as they are 'priced' for tourists. There are much better eateries 10 minute walks or 5 minute taxi rides down local alleys.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 November 2023
- Heli PHelsinki, Finland6,405 contributionsCobblestone memorialIt has been a tremendous effort to pave all the streets of Lisbon with white stones the size of potatoes way back to the farthest port areas. The surface has been left uneven I guess for historical reasons making walking on it in humid air hazardous. Statues of men knealing in their work are situated near the former Eden Theatre now transformed into a fast fashion temple.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 16 November 2023

Praca does Restauradores at the souteast end of Ave. da Liberdade, just to the northwest of Rossio. The square is dedicated to the Portugal's War of Restoration (1640-68) and Independence from Spain and is highlighted by a 30-metre tall obelisk monument that was erected in 1886.
The square is surfaced with interlocking calçada portuguesa (Portuguese cobblestones) patterned surface and surrounded by 19th and early 20th century buildings including the impressive Palácio Foz and the Art Deco style Eden Theatre. There is a Hard Rock Cafe on the square as well.

This is a large mostly empty square highlighted by the Monument to the Restorers in the middle. Unlike Rossio Square further south, there are no food stalls here cluttering the place and obscuring the fountains, but alas, there are no fountains here.

In the center of this large square surrounded by calçada portuguesa is the large Restauradores obelisk commemorating the independence of Portugal from Spain.
On one side of the square is a repurposed art deco theater and the pink Palacio Foz and at the northwest corner is the Elevador da Gloria with access to the Bairro Alto area.
There are numerous hotels, restaurants and shops encircling the square.
There is also a blue line metro stop located here

Tribute to the pavers of the artistic sidewalks. There are figures of three workers creating a design of a caravel, the famous Portuguese ship. The statues are at the southwestern end of the square.
A must see while in the beautiful city of Lisbon.

I thought it is the Rossio Square when I first visited it. The statue is very impressive and the surrounding architecture is beautiful.

A very beautiful square with lots of restaurants/ bars around the perimeter- a lovely place to stop for a drink and admire the main statue. The metro stops in the square too. There are also 2 tourist offices in the square. Walk through the statue arch for shops and more restaurants.
